flitz35 So I don't understand. With so much garbage put there like these boring zombie and slasher movies that ate supposed to scare you a movie that actually does scare you like The Presence it gets slammed not just by critics but by regular people as well that didn't give it a chance because of the greasy palmed critics..The Presence was great it wasn't the scariest although I got the chills many times but it told a good.story about a father and daughter with an amazing twist as the end. I am giving bit ten stars based on the unjustly reviews this hidden gem got. Whoever wrote and directed this movie. Thanks..I enjoyed it
Kim Tomlin I wouldn't say I put tons of weight on other people's reviews but I will if the issue is consistent. When this came on this afternoon, it sounded interesting but I came here and the negative comments made it sound as if it would not be a movie I'd like while the positive weren't really helpful--for me.So, I don't know how helpful this will be but I'm so glad I didn't listen to the negatives. Was it a slow start. Yes. Was it "quiet" for 15-20 minutes? Yes. Was it a bad movie? Not even close. If you are looking for movies with lots of action, gore and in your face scares, this isn't for you. I happen to like both and this one delivered in terms of spooky but not the in your face kind. It's a story about a woman's growth past what happened to her as a child--something I can relate to. The betrayal of someone she loved and trusted and how does one get past that? Not easily. It was also a story of forgiveness and I believe the ghost was who many people believe it was; otherwise, why would he have asked for her forgiveness? Certainly the other suggested identification would have had no reason to ask for forgiveness--he didn't know her.The movie had some chills but that really wasn't the movie. If you want a tender story with your chills, by all means, check it out. If that doesn't appeal to you, I would recommend you not--you'll not like it. But for me, I will watch and enjoy this one again.
Michael Lane This feels like a film with a lot less money than they must have had, given that the cast includes Justin Kirk and Mira Sorvino. The camera work is remarkably amateurish, save the rare shot that any film fan can quickly recognize as directly lifted from other movies. Inappropriately scored, too, with sappy, upbeat romantic comedy music playing behind scenes that are meant to be chilling. Plot-wise, it's full of holes, leaving much unexplained. I wouldn't call it boring -- I was mesmerized, in fact, but for the wrong reason; I really still can't believe how bad this movie is. Felt like I needed a shower afterward to wash the stench of it off of me. Watch this movie with discerning film fans for a fun point-and-laugh experience.
diane-chandler-75 This is perhaps one of the best films I have ever seen. Being a very 'wordy' person, I find it beyond amazing to see how much Shane West could draw out the character and personality of the 'ghost' without uttering a word. He acts with every inch of his body and displays emotions on his face and in his eyes better than most who have words to further their objective. To say he is talented is a gross understatement.I was well pleased with all the actors and the way they were able to interpret their role. I particularly liked Justin Kirk's portrayal of the man. He was warm, supportive and loving toward the woman, even when she was quite literally coming apart at her mental and emotional seams. The freedom to interpret just what the ghost and the man in black represent adds dimension to the film in a way not seen often in the horror genre. The actions of the ghost in the closing minutes of the film give teeth to an already difficult role to portray. Learning the decisions he made and the effect those decisions had on the outcome is gratifying, especially if you are one that finds certain satisfaction from knowing you were able to unravel the plot as the film developed.I would recommend this film to anyone who enjoys a film that makes you think and will most definitely watch it again. The absence of dialog in so much of the film creates a challenge to the viewer to know the characters well and pay close attention to every small detail. Those cumulative details build a story you will not be disappointed in from professionals whom you will admire more highly by the end of the film.
