invisibleunicornninja This is a beautifully animated story with a simple plot and characters that could've been developed further. This movie is a bit entertaining, but I'm in no hurry to watch it again.
wolkenglupscher A stunning and quite fairy tale. Perfect for a quite night full of thinking. Has the most beautiful music that fits perfectly. "Arrietty*s Song" has a perm. spot in my playlist. This movie is for those who love Ghibli movies. Such nice world building and just all those cute little details that make is so great.
Florina Lucia When I first heard of this movie I was very skeptical about it. I thought: "Is this worth it or is it just some boring lame cartoon?" Well... I must say that I LOVED IT! Even from the start I liked the characters and from there it got better and better. It's definitely a good film for kids and just about anybody who enjoys a cute anime with sweet atmosphere and very awesome visuals. The scenery is just beautiful and colorful.I must say, though, that it is better to watch the movie in original Japanese audio. Not because the English version is bad of something but you can really "feel" the film with it's "natural" language. That's my opinion. At the end I loved everything about it. Still... I would have like to see past the ending of it, because it made me want more of the story. There is great material in this movie and it would have made a fine series of episodes if given the chance. I watched it, I loved it, I would watch it again and love it again. It was worth my time and I think that if you like any good anime, this is the stuff for you.
Leofwine_draca A straight-up adaptation of Mary Norton's classic children's book THE BORROWERS, made by the superlative Japanese Studio Ghibli. This has all of the elements we've come to expect from our Ghibli movies, such as excellent production values and wonderful animation, all combined with emotion and heart that makes their movies difficult to dislike. And, indeed, ARRIETTY is such a film. The story is simplicity in itself, an action-orientated tale about the adventures that arise when a hidden family of 'little people' living beneath the floorboards come into contact with humankind for the first time. It's straightforward, with readily-realised characters and few twist and turns. And yet it's eminently watchable thanks to the decent voice acting and the way that emotions are readily identifiable. The story may be a little too saccharine for all tastes, but I find this sort of material to be much more honest and realistic than the shove-it-in-your-face sentimentality of a rival Disney-made movie. Just make sure you avoid the Disney dub and watch the subtitled version instead!
