March 1965. In the heat of the Cold War, the USA and the USSR are competing for supremacy in space. What both superpowers aim for in this race, is to be the first to have a man walk in outer space. To accomplish that, no price is too high and no risk is too great. Now it’s up to the unlikely duo of a seasoned war veteran and a hot-headed test-pilot to fulfill this mission. Two men in a tiny spaceship, without proper testing, facing the complete unknown. They were supposed to do what no man has done before—and no man imagined what would happen next.

fmt-96-787608 2 hours and 10 minutes painful and boring, despite of a screenplay pretty consistent. Problem with these "patriotic" movies (US, Russian here, Cambodian or wherever) is: they all fall into THE trap of soppiness in the name of the pride, honors or glory of the stories they relate. Evgenyi Mironov's acting is as smooth and polished as a Russian virgin waiting for her charming prince. Only the role of the CCCP space program chief is very nicely played in this cinematic wreck. It is also notworthy that pictures quality is awesome
frater I liked watching this movie maybe even more than watching "The Right Stuff". Probably because it tells the story of the Sovjet efforts of the space race. Throughout the movie I couldn't help thinking it was an American movie as there was a continuous criticism towards the Sovjet era. Some can be explained by the changed political system, but still.... And is it so much different now? Maybe it just proves that we were always right when trying to imagine how life was there. Or the film is just intended to be watched by the Western world and they like to confirm many of the clichés.But I'm glad this film is made. A lot of movies are made on the American efforts when in fact the Sovjets won all battles except the ultimate one (putting a man on the moon). Interesting too how both sides solved the problems in different ways. All top German scientists fled to the US and still the Russians were able to win the most battles.
tim_slessor Despite strong visual fx, a handful of beautiful images and two appealing leads, this film takes a remarkable true story and smothers it in cheesy dialogue, facile inanity and endless sub-Hollywood clichés. The tone is set early on by some painful dialogue and every moment of dramatic potential is neutered by the overbearing music score and painfully earnest direction.A real shame, as the story carries so much potential and there is clearly some talent involved in this production.
Chev Olek This is an amazing movie about the first men in space and the first man to ¨walk¨ in space. It's a race against time between the USSR and the USA to see who sends the first men to space. It has a great suspenseful music (even though in one scene I thought I was listening to a ripoff of a song used in Hollywood movie trailers like Star Trek (2009) and in one of The Dark Knight movies, the song is ¨Freedom fighters¨ by Two Steps from Hell)Aside from that, it's a amazing film just like ¨Gravity¨ from Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron and starring the awesome actress Sandra Bullock.CGI is exceptionally well done and the acting is very believable.Great suspense scenes one after the other even until the very end. I don't know how much of this is true, but as an American movie fan watching it without thinking of political points of views, I say the movie is really worth it.
