Simulpec If you are a typical leftist who has bought into the media-manufactured image of Sara Palin as hateful and ignorant then you will not like this. If you like Sara Palin then you will like maybe love this movie. It is unapologetically a conservative and Pro-Palin perspective. But guess what there is nothing wrong with that. It does not try to present itself as anything but that. That said, even if you don't like her or are ambivalent but are not a mindless lemming so indoctrinated by MSNBC, Keith Olbermann, Bill Maher etc that the mere mention of Sara Palin causes you to cringe then you would probably like this. One reviewer said that it was as biased as a Michael Moore film (which it is) but then condescendingly wrote "...but at least Michael Moore brings awareness to a particular subject of topical interest rather than simply shameless self-promotion." What an absurd comment. Of course it's self-promotion. It's about her life. Her life is the topic so it's also absurd to suggest she has no awareness of the topic. Now unlike Moore she does not have to resort to making things up and misrepresenting the facts. The film is divided up nicely in three sections; her years as mayor, her years as governor and her VP campaign and the post-campaign years since then. What I found most insightful was the more in-depth accounting of what she accomplished as mayor and governor and what she was up against and the issues that were so peculiar to Alaska. I also really appreciated hearing about why she resigned as governor. Suffice it to say, it wasn't quite as simple as most of the media portrayed which was basically that she wanted to leave Alaska and be famous. Is it self-promotion? Yes. Is it factual? Yes. And given how she is attacked and misrepresented by most of the media it was nice to see something positive about her. She had an approval rating of 88% right before McCain called her. You don't get an 88% approval rating by being ignorant and hateful. There is nothing wrong with self-promotion if you can back it up and Sara Palin can.
Silence Franklin I learned a lot about this women that I previously did not know. It is amazing that she held an 80% approval rating in Alaska when she was Governor. That is unheard of. I was also amazed at all of her accomplishments. She is truly the example of what a Politician should be (a public servant). I really find it absolutely amazing how much fire she took from the Media Machine when it was entirely undeserved. My favorite line was from Anthony Breitbart when he said "The establishment Republicans were a bunch eunuchs for not defending a woman who was being savagely attacked by their peers and the media" (or something to that effect). I think he then stated that chivalry is dead in Washington. I think what struck me the most was how evident that the attacks on her were purely based on ideology. She has nothing in her record as a leader that would warrant such criticism. In fact if you look at the reviews here on this site, you will see it too. This was a fantastic documentary. If you want to learn more about her watch this documentary. I feel that I have been fed complete malarkey about her in the past. Watch this documentary and I think you too will learn something. The fact that sooo many people have rated this a 1 out of ten should tell you something. Don't believe the b s . This is a well done and informative documentary. Whoever made this, well done and thank you. There are not enough of these gems out there.
michael_c_fay When Sarah Palin was introduced to the "Lower 48," we where told generally about her successes in Alaska. This documentary goes into great detail about what she did locally and state-wide. If people had known this information in 2008, she may have won. Anyone interested in knowing the truth about Palin needs to watch this. The film begins with clips of Liberal Hollywood types and various media personalities casting Palin in a very dark light. Their criticism is so vulgar and over-the-top it's difficult to watch. The film contains rare photos and film of Palin at a young age. And uses clips of Palin from her audio book, "Going Rouge."
Tony Heck "Moments that surged into a wave of momentum, republican party leaders didn't see it coming." A documentary covering Sarah Palin's rise from Mom to Mayor to VP candidate and beyond. Looking at all the reviews for this, including IMDb, Amazon & Rotten Tomatoes I noticed that they were all politically biased. Palin lovers gave it high grades, haters gave it low. I'm going to try and do the first non-politically based one. The movie begins with Palin talking about Alaska in the late 90's and the Valdez oil spill. Then the interviews begin. The entire time I watched this I couldn't help but compare it to a Michael Moore movie (who I do not like at all). The comparisons are based on the entire movie is 100% one sided. All the interviews are with former staff workers of hers. I'm not saying that you should only interview people against her or not put in people to defend her, but one guy continuously compares her to Reagan while another compares her to a marine. Some of these are a little over the top. I can go either way with Palin, but I feel that she went from a politician who cared about the people and her state to a celebrity. From a governor to a Kardashian if you will. On a side note, the music was distracting. Using music that would be used at the end of a sports movie, but only a 5 second clip, that repeats itself, for 2 hours. The movie could have been a half hour shorter and not lost anything. I refer to this as a movie on purpose, I can't call this a documentary in the same way I can't call a Michael Moore movie a documentary. They are too one-sided to be taken seriously. Overall, this is the type of thing you would see at a political convention that hypes you up to see the candidate. This does not work as a documentary released to the public. On the other hand it is not deserving of all the negative politically biased reviews that it got. In hopes of staying out of a debate, and due to the fact that there is really nothing of substance in this I will not give it a grade.Would I watch again? Most likely no.
