Ted Stoner Pick up a DVD copy of this movie then send it to your enemy. A confusing dragged out plot including a weak attempt at romance. Flaccid military action lead by an old man trying to pass for 21. The writer(s) considers themselves to be wise in the way of war since they read Sun Tzu's The Art of War (or maybe just read a summary on Wikipedia). An old man at a grocery store suddenly gets hauled into the plot from outer space it seems, becoming a murderer, arsonist, doctor, philosopher, friend and accomplice all somewhat randomly.I don't know what this movie was supposed to be about. Suffice to say it didn't really deliver the message all that well.
kristof wuyts Man is this a bad movie. Not even Cuba could save this one. I felt the urge of walking away from it but I kept on watching to see how this epic fail of a movie would end. And i must say, it ended like it started: crappy! And what about those cheap, laim flashbacks, can someone tell me wtf John Carter and Scott Schafe were thinking? I just can't believe a great actor like Cuba Gooding Jr. wanted to be in this movie after he read the screenplay. Did you have money problems Cuba? I can't even pretend to understand what i just watched, what's the point of this movie? War is bad? If you don't know that you're a terrorist. Stay away from this one!!! People who like this movie have absolutely no taste in movies. I wasted an hour and a half of my life watching it, and another ten minutes reviewing it. That's way more attention than it deserves, but if my review can convince just one person in NOT seeing this movie. It was all worth it!
darryl_giggs But I won't. Simply because any film with Cuba Gooding Jr deserves more respect. To be honest, after spending (wasting) 90mins watching the DVD (thankfully it only cost me 1.95 to rent it), I was less amazed at HOW BAD it was, than the fact that someone could actually produce a movie like this. The other reviewers had mentioned some of the "potential" underlying the film -- Cuba, war film, conspiracy, revenge .....it had all the makings of a classic war hero-turned-national-traitor-for-honor film. But somehow, not only the potential was not materialized, it just went downhill from the 1st min onwards.Typically, I watch movies with the intention to unwind, relax, cast myself off to another dimension where I don't have to think much and can intuitively follow the movie plot (i.e. typical Hollywood movie). This movie was ANYTHING but typical. It bordered on the artistic and philosophical, which really, was a turn-off for me.However, after reading some of the positive reviews, I guess I could see the value of the philosophy that the producers tried to carry across. All in all, AVOID the move at all costs if you are expecting a typical Hollywood production.
innocuous This is an awful movie. There's no originality (unless being incomprehensible is considered original), there's no action, and it looks like it was made on a budget of $50K.Let's start with the most fundamental problem: being confusing. I truly have no idea what this movie is about. The movie is about 50% flashbacks (and not the illuminating kind, either) that just serve to confuse. The US Secretary of Defense apparently hangs around at illegal fighting exhibitions and nobody notices. (In fact, it looks as if he is the ONLY one attending the fights.) The whole plot (if there is one) is just a mess. The other big problem is how cheap the film looks. It looks like it was shot in an old warehouse that serves as a bar, a secret fight club, a terrorist hide-out and makeshift hospital in the middle east. Weapons and weapon-handling are crappy, the fight scenes are pretty much non-existent, but when there are some fights, they are truly limp.Just bad, bad, bad. Not worth a moment of your time.
