Leofwine_draca THE ZOMBIE KING is a British comedy horror film, made as very much a SHAUN OF THE DEAD rip-off with northern-style humour throughout. Thus we get lots of exaggerated jokes, lots of lame character humour, and broad accents. The stars of the piece are ostensibly Edward Furlong and Corey Feldman, but both have little screen time and instead much of the narrative is occupied by a bunch of unknowns who go through the streets avoiding zombies wherever they can.Furlong has a supporting role as the titular character, a down-on-his-luck chap who accidentally caused a zombie epidemic when trying to bring his wife back to life. Feldman has a one scene cameo as the lord of all evil, if you can believe that. Most of the budget must have gone on flying the two actors over to the UK to shoot their brief scenes. The rest is a waste of time.
annkennedy38 No to be at all negative when i begin, but i had no particular hopes for this film. I watched it with my daughter who is a fan of zombie fiction, series and so forth. I expected all out gore but what i found was a well thought out, unique spin on a well worn genre. It had a wonderful cast and the comedy was excellent (barring a few rather cruder moments for my tastes). Overall i enjoyed this film and would most certainly watch it again. I know my daughter would agree. Well worth your time and i cannot at all understand how it is averaging so low? This is a film that i feel many would enjoy, though it is still quite niche it is a refreshing change.
Adam Podmore I watched this film with my brother, gotta say I thought this was one of the funniest films I've seen for a while along with Ted and TV program Modern Family. The Milk Man was amazing and funny, he had me belly laughing. The scene with the shed ha ha ha ha ha and then he smells his finger after grabbing the girls boobs, its so funny that's what a desperate man would do that doesn't get a bird. The church scene was awesome finding out how to kill a zombie, it was genius that they used a different method than the usual. Makes the milk man character even more comical using his milk bottles.I really liked the flash backs to the characters stories to show how they have got to where they are.I also really like the fact that the film tells you how the zombie outbreak started, they didn't even do this in Shaun of the Dead.I really liked all the character's the crazy older lady, the traffic warden that's a jobs worth, the postman who thinks he's action man, the mole that turns out to be a good guy, the two lads from the bakery 'I only popped out for a chocolate muffin'. The young girl, the girl who was a ball breaker and the girl who wont take any nonsense from anyone. Then there's the Samuel Peter's causing all this trouble to get his wife back but which one? Having a demon in a zombie film is cool too, I actually looked the name up after and Kalfu is a real Demon of the underworld, the writers really did their homework, the character was really well acted by Corey Feldman who I didn't realise was mouth from the Goonies, another awesome film.At the age of 18 I can see why our age group really like this film, I think the rating was a bit heavy from the age of 16 this would crack them up
Sal Hanson Before I go into my review, lets get something straight I have given this movie a 10/10 on the basis that I really enjoyed this film as a viewer looking at it from the off set as a B MovieFilming an Indie film there are time constraints, money constraints and lack of top of the range equipment, props etcThe filmmakers obviously put a lot of thought into the production, from the costume to locations. The zombie make-up for our day and age could of been better done but let's go back to the day of 'Night of the Living Dead' 1968 'George A. Romero', the zombie's here had the pale sunken in features and nobody questioned that. I can see what the director was going for here, which again brings this film forward to a Cult B Movie.Picking up on some of the negative user reviews I have read, take your time to stand back and think about what you have wrote, this is not a serious film, it's a farcical comedy even from the offset ' A Milk Man, Post Man and Traffic Warden' in a middle of a zombie breakout, there right from the start you know what to expect from this film. The one liners are going to be strange like the old lady character, 'Vera'. The Milk Man has some amazing lines which I reckon the younger generation will be quoting after they watch the film. In one of the reviews I read the postie character had done a bad Clint Eastwood impression, come on guys, the actor obviously did this on purpose to fit the style of the film and in my point of view he did a grand job, come on' "when I first joined the service, I worked on the estates in Newcastle" what Brit person over the age of 20 can not find that funny? Again in the same vain the character of the Priest fits this film perfectly the way the actor played it out, the ever knowing drunk priest, priceless. I felt there was a great mix of characters, some better than others but all in all a great ensemble. This film does have its faults even from my perspective but what B movie doesn't? I loved it, great effort from first time feature director 'Aidan Belizaire'. The director uses elements from the 'French New Wave' from lighting, to long takes, through to the segmented re-use of the scene with Edward Furlongs character, which was genius. It was his stylistic approach, again this helps towards this movie standing out and entering into a Cult Classic, not to mention having two of the biggest child star actors of the 80's.The filmmakers of this film obviously didn't want it to be your everyday zombie film, which the market is completely over saturated with. They wanted to make it different, which they did. Don't watch this film as a full on horror, watch it as a comedy. This film will certainly not win any awards, and by the looks of it, it's a love hate thing. For a B movie it's certainly more entertaining, more thought out than a lot of the other indie zombie films which are hitting our shelves these day's .One further point before I finish, great ending and homage to one of greatest classic's of George A. Romero.
