Jini-B When the movie first started making rounds, I remember many people made fun of the name. Everyone was wondering how a love story can be named Toilet. I was surprised to see the social message that came with this movie. Movie stars in India can reach a lot of different people through their works and this was one of the only times I had seen a big-ticket movie star attempt to create awareness about such a taboo topic. The delivery of the social message was done very effectively in this movie. Despite that, this movie is not without flaws. Pros first, the actors are really good in their respective roles. The script was mostly funny in the beginning, except for some clichéd jokes. The supporting characters also added to the movie. Especially the older family members of the lead characters. The chemistry between Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar was easy, but sometimes they seemed a little uncomfortable. The main cons for me were the unnecessary songs and the accompanying dance sequences. For a movie that primarily wants to deliver a moral, the movie has far too many songs. And the songs aren't even that good. The movie could have gone without having all the songs. The script was a little predictable at times but it was a good movie overall.
ANUNAY SHARMA Toilet is a film about the tussle against deeply rooted superstitions in our mind in the name of culture and religion. On the surface, it is a film about improving public sanitation and emphasis on making toilet in every house to counter the problem of Open defecation. But on a closer look, it sounds more like an struggle between aged and current conception. It is and assault against bygone notions which are deposited in our mind in the name of tradition and religion.Religion never harms anybody, what harms most is the delusional distortion of religion in the name of custom and heritage. And this film tries to oppose the very same distorted notions.A very noble endeavor by the director for picking such a relevant and contemporary issue. But only picking a good idea doesn't translates into a good movie. The first and the foremost issue with the film is its feeble screenplay. It drags too much. The film could have easily been edited by up to an hour. The plot had potential but is lost in the haywire storytelling and never-ending second half. The screenplay of the film would have been made into a good 30-35 minutes short film but if you are making a movie you need to have something much more than that. Aside from screenplay and editing, muddled storytelling is an another drawback. Director drags the film by putting songs and overly sentimental monologues and scenes at regular intervals but it clearly encumbers the flow of narrative. Direction is average at best. Cinematography is good. Music is complete waste and is only there to increase the length of film.Acting is good. Sudhir Pandey went too over the top however considering the demand of the script, it could be forgiven. Akshay Kumar is natural. Bhumi Pednekar was brilliant and nailed her role aptly. The performance which stood out the most was of Divyendu Sharma's as the younger brother of Akshay Kumar. So in the end it's just that the film clearly had the potential of being a powerful social satire but was lost somewhere among weak writing, overly long run-time and bland direction. It could have been much more but is sadly just a promulgation of Prime minister's Clean India Initiative. A one time watch...
ishaoberoi Watched at Wembley. I have never reviewed before but let me just say that this film doesn't really belong to Akshay territory which women don't go. In other words this is an Akshay film that women will go along with! It's about you know the lack of convenience facilities in rural India as the other reviews have said. What I enjoyed is lack of ambition in this movie. It doesn't go wild suddenly and remains to its roots. Akshay is good, Bhumi is OK. Expect many such small town scripts of bigger stars in future.
rahul_543210 Everything is superb in this movie. Watching such an entertaining movie after a looooong time. Story, dialogues, acting, songs... all very too good. I don't write movie reviews but after watching such a nice movie, wanted people not to miss it :) Akshay has come out really outstanding... performances by other fellow actors are equally good...Songs have been written, composed and sung very well... Seems like our legend Sonu Nigam is back with this movie...His voice really suits Akshay Kumar... For me it's 10 on 10 flick...
