jennifercallow What else can be said about this film other than it truly is a masterpiece. So many great moments, which I won't spoil for anyone who hasn't seen the film. The writing, cast and story are all phenomenal. And I love how Sally's quarks play off Harry's character. It's a really great dynamic and one can't help but fall in love with the two through the course of the film.
josh_lambert1991 Firstly I must say that I have been a fan of this film for such a long time. I saw it on Friday evening and I have been in love with it ever since. Everything about this film is perfect. But I have a few things that I think could be better.Firstly the title of the movie is a bit misleading as I think it can come across a bit sexist to say when Harry met Sally. I mean what year was this film made the 1930's? Are we not to think that Sally did in fact meet Harry Aswel?Might I suggest a new title for the movie. "When Harry and Sally meet each other" I think this gives a better indication of what the film is about and would make it a much more enjoyable film for people to watch. Actually I have had another thought the story of the film actually tells the story of Sally and Harry meeting on 3 occasions 5 years apart of each other (spoiler alert)Sorry I have just read that you should put the words "spoiler alert" before the spoiler so that you don't spoil the film for anyone. I want to apologise for my mistake that lead me to do it wrong. In light of my new thoughts on the story may I suggest the renaming of the film to "When Harry and Sally meet each other on three different occasions"One of the many things I loved about this movie was Billy crystal. I just think he is amazing in the movie. At the beginning of the movie he is quite mean to Meg Ryan and I was thinking he could be called Bully Crystal. Then when he is in the restaurant if he had ordered a steak he could be called Grilly CrystalBut I love the way he's always making jokes throughout the movie and he should be renamed Silly Crystal. When it's Christmas time in the film and he and Meg Ryan go for a Christmas tree while it's snowing he looks cold and he could be called Chilly Crystal. At times in the movie he is being a bit of a Knob and he could be called Willy CrystalIf in the movie he decided to wear one of Meg Ryan's ruffled dresses he could be called Frilly Crystal. But non of this happened and I am getting sidetracked so I will apologise.I love the part in the movie when the ogre rescues the princess from the tower that's really powerful stuff.Sorry that was part of Shrek I watched it on the same evening and I keep getting a bit mixed up on what parts of the movie happened in which film.I think I will leave the review here. I just hope the rumours of "when Harry met Sally 2" are true as I have been such a lover for this classic for so long.
Predrag It is a great love story and a great comedy, and the segments with old couples telling the story of how they met (based on the real life stories of the crew's families) are brilliant, and will have you look back on when you met your significant other. The movie world owes Rob Reiner a favour for the fact that his fine film is truly timeless. Part of this is due to the fact that it is set over a fifteen year period. Part of it is due to the fine easy listening score. Most of it is due to a very refined director extracting two brilliant performances from a flawless script and a perfectly cast couple of actors.Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan are the titular two, and neither have ever been better. The observation of their relationship is utterly convincing and completely engrossing. Beyond this, there are subtleties that neither actor has ever shown before or since. There are moments early in the film where we can see Sally is falling for Harry (for example, her response to Harrty telling her he is pleased she is going on a date with another man) but these moments are never overplayed. The credit for this is due as much to Reiner as it is to Ryan, as it is his pacing of the film that really allows the actors to embrace their characters. The film is a perfect balance. Its story-line unfolds like real life without seeming thin or dissatisfying, and the viewer never loses interest. Both Billy Crystal as Harry and Meg Ryan as Sally are perfect; in 1989, the former was still funny, the latter was still charming, and both of them were still young. The chemistry between them is flawless. But this would be nothing without the dialogue. The film's razor-sharp, conversational dialogue is the true selling point. Witty, realistic and above all hilarious, it's what makes the film the classic it is. Making legitimate observations about relationships, combined with some laugh-out-loud moments (the white- man overbite, for example), the film draws you in, makes you laugh and then, at the risk of sounding clichéd, makes you think.Overall rating: 8 out of 10.
tapio_hietamaki Touted as the best romantic comedy out there, 'When Harry Met Sally' indeed works. It covers a long time period and shows us a changing relationship. It's really about how weird human relationships are and how strange routes we can take to happiness. This theme is emphasized by the interviews with married couples that are interspersed into the movie. We also get to witness how people themselves change. When we meet the protagonists, they are young, confident and full of ideas. Some of those ideas go on to be dispelled by time, and some new ones take wing. So it's about personal growth. The scene where Meg Ryan fakes an orgasm in the middle of a crowded diner is an absolute blast.
