Sam Panico I grew up a fat child in a small town with crushing self esteem issues, a love for gore movies and a sarcastic mind that loved the way people treated me when I started dressing all in black. Every single situation that Eddie Weinbauer (Marc Price, the previously mentioned Skippy) endures in this film…I lived it. If a monster Glenn Danzig could take over shop class and kill my tormentors, I would have gladly welcomed such mayhem and menace.Eddie is a big fan of Sammi Curr, a superstar who went to the same high school Eddie is in, was tormented and bullied the same way Eddie is, became a big star and then died in a mysterious fire. Radio DJ Nuke (Gene "inventor of the devil horns" Simmons, who played a great bad guy in Never Too Young to Die while wearing his girlfriend Cher's clothes) gives Eddie the only vinyl copy of Sammi's satanic masterwork "Songs in the Key of Death."Eddie does exactly what I'd do: he listens to the record and falls asleep. He has a crazy dream about the fire that killed Curr and awakens to the album playing backwards, telling him how to gain revenge on the bullies that torment him.Eddie chickens out though — he doesn't want to kill the jocks who have made his life so rough. Sammi takes matters into his own hands, creating an electric surge that allows him to escape the record and come back to our reality. Eddie responds by smashing his stereo. Sammi's response is as perfect as it gets: "No false metal."Sammi's friend Roger gets involved and unwittingly plays a cassette at the school dance, causing Sammi to leap out of a guitar amp and take the stage. The crowd goes wild before Sammi starts killing audience members, shooting lightning at them and revealing his burned face. I saw this scene at the drive-in this year and the exuberance of hearing Fastaway blasting from car stereos in the fog at 5 AM is an experience I recommend to every single person reading this.Read more at http://bit.ly/2l4iO5c http://bit.ly/2l4iO5c
gavin6942 Sammi Curr was a famous, devil-worshiping rock star who died under mysterious circumstances. Now he wants to come back to life. Doing so requires possessing radio waves and automobiles and making a few human sacrifices.I was not familiar with this film, and had no idea what it was about. Today, if you say "Trick or Treat", people will think of "Trick 'r Treat", if they know their horror films at all. But right from the start, I liked what was going on here, a rock and roll horror film set in the heavy metal 1980s when rock went head to head with the PMRC.Unfortunately, the film does not quite live up to the early promise, and is not helped by some irritating music. (I like heavy metal, but some of the tracks on here are awful.) We get a story that is a bit like "Shocker" and a bit like "Rock and Roll Nightmare", though very much its own story... worth a peek, though perhaps not the lost treasure I wish I was.
antistaterick Fun little flick! Fans of 80's horror and metal will cherish it. Unfortunately, its releases so far are hugely inadequate. This cult favorite desperately needs a properly restored DVD/Blu-ray with remastered picture and sound! And if possible, commentary, trailers, TV spots, featurettes, music videos, original theatrical artwork poster cover, etc.So I ask- what can be done to expedite the process of music and movie licensing nonsense in order to get Anchor Bay or whoever to out a proper release? Should we write to Fastway's label or whoever owns DEG movies? Come on Anchor Bay or Blue Underground, get on this! Maybe we should write to Mark Price? Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Aaron1375 Actually, I never bought into the metal was satanic and stuff, but this movie kind of played on that idea. Though certainly not a movie to take seriously or to rate really high, it does serve its purpose in that it entertains while it is playing. The story has a metal band burned to death in their hotel, one of their fans has a dream to this effect and said band starts to go on a kill spree from beyond the grave. So yes, a bit of "Nightmare on Elm Street" plot going on here. Granted Freddy never molested a girl in a car before. There was another movie featuring a heavy metal band in it, but it was very different in how it played out as it had a band that kind of took over a town of kids and made them crazy. This one simply has the one fan of the band kind of helping the killer spirit at first then trying to stop him. Nothing to gruesome in it as I do not remember all that many gory kills. Quite frankly, the scene I do remember most is the scene of the girl wearing the headphones and then being molested by some creature incarnation of the band. Nothing great, but a nice time filler.
