Thomas Clement (Mr. OpEd) I thought Daybreakers was a great flick so I wanted to see something else the creators made. This was AWFUL. If you like the F-word screamed at the top of everyone's lungs instead of smart dialog, then this is the film for you/sarc.So yes, they certainly improved as film makers if you take this as the first step. The sample-based orchestra score was well done, though!
alistairc_2000 I remember watching this at DBD a couple of years ago and was surprised that it did not get a cinema release in GB. So I was really looking forward to watching this again. First of all the paranoia has been lost as this is the second time I have seen it. Also I did not like the comedy elements so much this time. The story. Strange meteorites strike the earth, turning people in brain eating zombies. In the typical zombie scenario it is a bunch of misfits against the zombies.I felt that this story had more in common with Return of the living Dead than Romero's classic trilogy. The effects are great as is the acting. I thought the music was terrible and in places the movie really got lost. It could not make up its mind, a zombie movie or a farce? Still it was better and made more sense than the remake of dawn of the dead. Also the acid rain scene was fantastic, plus it was a good idea to get the girls naked!! 7/10
J.P. boudreaux I watched this movie based on the poster picture on the page expecting a cool post apocalyptic zombie tale. Instead you get this movie. I found myself fast forwarding through scenes. while it is interesting to have zombies and aliens, the film never explains the origins of the zombies, why the aliens are here, what they want, and what is with the rain. Also it felt as if it was trying to be too much like Peter Jackson's Dead Alive, which is a much better zombie comedy and movie i recommend. While Undead does contain some funny moments as in Marion's hiding of guns in weird places(armpits? really?) or the sheriff that curses every other word and is so annoying you want him to die, i found myself only actually laughing during one scene after they run over several zombies.I will admit for the low budget of said film the effects were quite good. I recommend Daybreakers if you want to see a Spierig film.
Sione I didn't actually watch the whole movie, but only because it was so bad. Just to keep things not so pessimistic, I'll start off with the better points of "Undead". Obviously, this is a low budget film, but the effects are generally quite good. The photography conveys the right mood, shot in deep grey-blues for the majority of the film, and bright dusty colours for the opening scenes, giving a nice outback feel to it all. The gore effects and CGI are passable too; for a modest budget, it's done pretty well, and not being a very serious movie, the over-the-top parts fit in well enough, with some fairly cool action scenes. But other than these points, "Undead" is a fairly awful movie. The cast's performances are generally terrible, and the dialogue is even worse. The parts which are meant to be funny are rarely funny at all, most of the characters are just plain irritating, and the actual plot on the whole is stupid. Before someone goes "It's meant to be like that!" , I understand that it is meant to be ridiculous, and the characters aren't meant to be deep and engaging, but what's the point when this becomes a deterrent? I kept trying to watch "Undead", because I hate to judge something without knowing the whole thing, but it's hard with a movie as terrible and unwatchable as this.
