BlackJack_B The final Animaniacs project was released on VHS on Y2K Eve but I didn't see it until it aired on Teletoon Retro a few days ago.All the characters from the show are here but instead of being in their natural habitats they have all been placed in a town called Acme Hills. The Warners and friends are under the oppression of evil King Salazar; who took over their land in a hostile takeover and forces those in Acme Hills to live in abject poverty. As well, Dot needs an operation to help save her life. Wakko goes into the outside world and he returns with a Ha'penny which he intends to use to pay for the operation. However, Baron (Thaddeus) Plotz takes the money away as taxes and leaves Wakko broke again.Wakko then makes a wish to the stars and Pip (a character similar to the one Ben Stein voiced in an episode) grants Wakko his wish but he must trek to where it fell. He tells everybody about the news and it ends up being a mad dash to reach the star, including Baron Plotz and the Evil King Salazar.Wakko's Wish, sadly, isn't the ultimate Animaniacs movie I had hoped for. The story is done to death and the Animaniacs come off this time around as dull. Very few moments of zaniness abound and those moments are the only reason to sludge through the badly disjointed and overlong songs and redundant plot devices. The voice acting is good but it seems many characters have been toned down a lot, such as Jess Harnell's Wakko (who sounds more Continental than British) and Pinky (seemingly less nutty) among others. The animation is terrific and the characters have never looked better but everything else screams mediocre. If you're a huge Animaniacs fan as I am, you should still see the movie and decide for yourself if they finished the series with a bang or a whimper. I feel it was both and that's never a good result.
azbrewer03 When I first heard the plot for "Wakko's Wish", I was a bit skeptical at first. It sounded like a typical kid's flick- the kind of movie where the parents are busy and the kids need to be babysat by Uncle Television for a while. But, being a fan of "Animaniacs", I decided to give it a watch. The film's lead star is Wakko, who is worried at the fact that his sister, Dot, is ill with an unknown disease, and he and his brother, Yakko, do not have any money for treatment. Feeling desperate, Wakko wishes on a star, resulting in having a fairy come down and tell him that he has selected the one and only wishing star, and that the first person to touch the star will get one wish granted. Now, the entire town is racing to get to the wishing star first. The film's music, animation, and voice acting is great, but it seams that the main problem with this film is that it doesn't quite capture the spirit of "Animaniacs". The characters' personalities are different, and it has some very touching moments that the series lacked, which I actually enjoyed. There are a couple cute little scenes of sibling love with the siblings, particularly with Yakko and Dot. In short, Wakko's Wish is a nice little film, but I wouldn't watch it unless you are a fan of "Animaniacs."
littleoddball Once again the warner brothers and the warner sister entertain us with this charming and funny movie! The characters remained true to form and rarely do they get to grace our presence as such a large group. Using most of the cast as the villagers was pure genius and I only wish they get to work together as such a large group again in future. The lines were simple snappy and brilliant. The plot was strong and simply put I enjoyed it! Making Wakko the leading role was great and help show that the middle child can be as strong as the oldest or as cute as the youngest. Therefore helping those suffering from middle child syndrome. To finish of this review. I just have this to say: Do you suffer from vertigo?
Top Nerd Superficially similar to the Animaniacs TV series, but not nearly as funny, creative or insightful. The music (normally a highlight of the Animaniacs) is contrived and slipshod. Young children might find this entertaining, but I was hoping for much more.
