adonis98-743-186503 A former U.S. soldier returns to his hometown to find it overrun by crime and corruption, which prompts him to clean house. Action Packed, Hilarious and full of kicking and punching 'Walking Tall' has The Rock at his best doing what he knows best, Johnny Knoxville is also good as his friend and Neal McDonough is perfect as the film's main antagonist plus i loved the fight scenes in the Casino and the final confrontation in the woods also the scene in the Court was dramatic enough and Dwayne showcased some fantastic dramatic chops, overall a great and terrific action film. (A+)
GeorgeSickler The actors were fine, OK? But this movie is just a stupid mess of outrageous nonsense. If you have nothing better to do, don't even consider watching this groan-er. You're better off watching paint dry instead.Just a few examples (and these are spoilers): The family-owned mill, which was the major employer in town and the region, shuts down to build a cheating casino that also makes and sells drugs to kids.Huh?!?!? They shut down an on-going for-profit mill that was the MAJOR source of income for the region, to build a casino -- that needed patrons who had an income (from the mill?) to lose? The Rock, before he becomes sheriff, comes to the casino and spots the crap table croupier switching dice for a loaded pair. The result? The Rock gets beaten up to a pulp by the casino security thugs, in front of everybody else. And nobody cares. This ain't a good example of a casino's customer relations policy to keep people coming back. And, among others, the scene were the Rock's office (he's now the sheriff) gets massacred for around 15 minutes of movie time with machine gunfire and other mayhem. And NOBODY from town shows up? To see what's going on? To recognize the bad guys by sight? Meanwhile, the bad guys were laughing in front of God and everybody and didn't care if anyone was watching? Again, watching paint dry is a better option. Or maybe "My Mother the Car" reruns.
Dark Jedi There is absolutely nothing special about this movie. It is average all the way. It is however a decent enough off-the-shelf action flick which fulfills its purpose. That is to provide an hour and a half of decent entertainment. Our hero comes back from being away for quite a while and finds the bad guys are in control. A pretty classical story which have been used since the first movies were made (and even before that). The movie can easily be said to be a modern day Western movie as far as the story goes. Our hero, Dwayne Johnson, is doing a decent job of being a hero. The actions scenes, which is really why you are watching this movie after all, are reasonably well done. Of course they are more of TV-movie quality than anything else but good enough in the context of this movie. The movie plays out more or less exactly as you would expect. Hero comes home, find bad guys in control, gets into shuffle with bad guys, bad guys tries to take on hero via family and friends, fails, hero goes after main bad guy in a long chase/fight, happy ending, roll after texts. As I wrote, it could just as well have been an old Western movie. The traditional western saloon is replaced by a casino and the whiskey and cattle is replaced with crooked gambling and some modern drug dealing. The one part I though was silly, as in bad silly, was the trial in the first half of the movie. Warning, spoiler ahead! I mean, come on. Hero demolishes Casino and gets put on trial, hero shows jury his scars and asks to get a non-guilty verdict, jury happily obliges him. What the f…? Apart from this the movie completed its mission of knocking and hour and a half off my life while keeping me from being bored in front of the TV.
SnoopyStyle Chris Vaughn (Dwayne Johnson) returns home after serving in the Special Forces. He finds that the mill is closed, and the only game in town is the casino owned by an old classmate Jay Hamilton (Neal McDonough). His best friend Ray Templeton (Johnny Knoxville) is a recovering addict. When he's confronted with drug infested systemic corruption, he decides to fight back. And he's bringing a 2 by 4.The story is a pretty simple lone guy fights back. This is purported to be based on a real guy. Neal McDonough is great at the creepy bad guy. He doesn't overplay it. And he's a good foil to The Rock. The actors really make this movie function. If it wasn't for the likable Rock, there isn't that much to watch for in this movie.
