e-70733 This film is another shoddy commercial product under dominated by Luc Besson. It is filled with moldy plot and arrogant logic. Both the display of Japanese culture and design of the facetious atmosphere are very perfunctory. Therefore, the hardworking of talented actress Ryoko Hirosue could only highlights every defect of the film itself. Generally speaking, it seems that the idea of selling genre films as a cheap commodity to foreign audience has already ingrained in Luc Besson's mind for many years.
Bozo This movie reminds me a lot of movies like Shoot Em Up and The matrix combined...except in French.Wasabi follows the story of Hubert Fiorentini, a French cop who travels to Japan for his former lover, Miko's, cremation, only to learn that her daughter, Yumi, is also his. However, when he also learns of the vast fortune that Miko left Yumi, he knows he must protect Yumi from some bad people that Miko got mixed up with and ended up losing her life to.First off, the comedy/action mix in Wasabi is extraordinary. The comedy is not over-the-top ridiculously stupid like in Scary Movie 4. It goes well with the action and adds to it, making it interesting. The acting is excellent, particularly Jean Reno as Hubert Fiorentini, the by-the-book, witty, skilled cop. We also have a funny performance by Michel Muller, as Hubert's moronic, hard-working, laid back partner Momo. Ryoko Hirosue was also great as Yumi, the hyper, preppy, fun-loving, happy-go-lucky daughter of Hubert. There are a lot of good Matrix-style action scenes here, all well-done and not overly ridiculous. The story was very well written and executed.Over all, Wasabi is a great movie for action fans. Fans of The matrix and Shoot Em Up will not want to miss this one. 9/10.
Martin Cashman I never know how to rate these types of films. OK it's no masterpiece to bring some sort of existential meaning to your life and yes it is deeply flawed in many ways even by the standard at which it aims for but nonetheless, I found some endearing quality in its light hearted humour and entertaining style.Any film with Jean Reno in the lead and Luc Besson behind the script is going to entertain and this does just that. Thankfully the film is kept short enough for none of the flaws to start to irritate and the kick ass French cop goes to Japan theme is done well enough to warrant a viewing. My DVD had the option for French with English subtitles or English dubbed. Even though Jean Reno does his own over dubbing in the English version, I found the overall effect was a little stale. I restarted the film in French with subtitles and the energy and humour of the performances just shone through a lot better.
Global_Marketing_Pros This international movie brings East and West together. Just as science and technology connects East and West with entertainment, news, and personal uses. This Big Gun of Jean Reno looks as big as Arnold Swarzennagers in the movie The Last Action Hero. I like Jean Reno more in this type of role because he has developed a natural character persona which is type-casted by his choice of directors and screen-writers. Especially in roles such as in movies The Ronin, The Professional, and Wasabi. The virtuous science behind Wasabi seems like a common tie with the movie The Fifth Element, compassion. In other words the philosophy of science and its methods is the key. Coincidently Gary Oldman plays the bad guy as Zorg and a corrupt cop in the Professional where individual egotism and objectives obfuscate the universal principles of wearing a badge in global criminal justice. Most difficult ethical planning is most important when you have to make life and death decisions within the field of global criminal justice. Decide to pull a gun and if you do should you use it? However, some people choose to take advantage of other people. They intend to use them as the guns. They use them as living banks to deposit their illegal money. They use them to force political action with their heritage. Playing on the global ethical conduct of people is the most inexpensive method for getting what you want when you want it. Trying to determine how to bring justice to the virtuous, compassionate to the wrong, catch the bad guys and still be seen as an ethical global decision maker always seems to be the case for the global investigator.
