amysm2 I remember seeing this movie when I was in college and I still think about it over 23 years later. I have been trying for years to find the movie on video or DVD when a colleague of mine at work told me about your website. Needless to say, I was thrilled to find your review. This story had it all. Drama, tragedy, suspense, romance and real life emotion. Just that someone could actually survive something like that and go through what she did in the aftermath. Then to have someone see so much potential in her and then fall in love. This was a true love story if there ever was one. Love of a doctor for a person who would be his future wife. Love for a patient who would marry the doctor who basically rebuilt her face. I was awe struck at how determined she was to live and fight for her life. I would love to see this movie be remade into a contemporary version since I have told so many friends about this story. I have only run across one friend who knew what I was talking about. I would really like to own a copy of the movie as it was. Any suggestions as how to get one? I have searched the Internet without success. If anyone knows what site to go on for a video or DVD, please let me know. Thanks
rfranks2-1 I saw this movie way back when it was first released on TV in 1984, and I have wanted a copy of it ever since we got our first VCR. This movie really stayed with me, and I enjoyed it SO much. The story line was excellent, and I was moved by the trauma, the kindness of this doctor, and the way things unfolded. In the movie, this woman who is horribly disfigured experiences rejection, heart break and physical torture as well as mental. She is no longer beautiful, and her companion has left her. She is at the end of her rope when a professional and very handsome doctor takes an interest in her. You can almost feel her pain. I highly recommend it and must have a copy!
prfrmr I actually cried through much of the climactic drama of this movie.Funny thing is, I looked EVERYWHERE for this title and always came up with dead ends, probably because I thought it was a mid-90's TV film, and it's actually from 1984. No wonder.Anyway... Armande Assante --and granted he's a truly talented, very sexy multi-level actor-- TRULY deserves the most high appraisal for his tasty performance as the chief surgeon. He absolutely made my mouth water (for lack of a better word) here. And Glynnis O'Connor is magnificent in the portrayal of Leola May Harmon. This is another TRUE STORY movie that really reaches to the guts of television drama. When I first caught this on TV back in the mid-90's, I assumed it was a recent film. I did not realize it was actually an 80's TV movie--not that that's any relevance here. And for some odd reason I thought the title role of Leola May was portrayed brilliantly by actress Amy Madigan. Oops.LIke I said....I saw this film only once, 12 years ago (1994). But...oh the irony....the drama stuck with me ever since. And when I finally got around years later now, looking up Assante's name on the Internet----what a surprising gas to find THIS MOVIE title listed under his name! Whooo----I was excited! I hope this film will be released on DVD someday. It is DEFINITELY WELL WORTH the cost.
wmhe This movie hasn't been shown since its release. It should! It is a great story of courage, triumph, hope, friendship, tragedy and love. Lifetime should definitely add this to its list of must see movies! You can't go wrong watching this story! Glynnis and Armand are great in this! I was very moved when it originally aired in the early 80's. It made an impact on my life that I will never forget. I always wonder how the characters are doing now. This movie showed that the nurse triumphed over what life dealt her in the tragic accident. If you can find this movie on tape/CD please get it. I will be waiting for its re-airing! I hope someone that can make that happen reads this!
