hdsakunthalakumari The most authentic and down-to-earth characters I ever saw in a drama .
SnoopyStyle Anne Shirley (Megan Follows) is a precocious overly-dramatic talkative 13 year old orphan forever struggling under servitude of others. She loves books. Elderly brother and sister, Marilla (Colleen Dewhurst) and kindly Matthew Cuthbert (Richard Farnsworth), want a young boy to help the farm. They are surprised to find Anne Shirley waiting at the train station. Eventually Marilla relents to let her stay. She befriends Diana Barry and has a combative relationship with Gilbert Blythe. This is a great TV mini-series. The first hour has the trio of Follows, Dewhurst and Farnsworth. Farnsworth is almost silent but has such a great presence. Dewhurst is absolutely brilliant and Follows creates the new standard for Anne Shirley. Then Anne has a new trio with Diana and Gilbert. It's a series of fun hap-hazard teen misadventures and a sweet coming-of-age story.
lillalilla This movie was a huge disappointment for me. I have been a big fan of Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables since my childhood, but the movie fell short of my expectations... The characters were more or less okay, but I am not satisfied with the theatrical play, their gestures, their talking and so on. The movie was shallow and slow, Anne was very nerve-trying and annoying instead of cute and musing, besides the Prince Edward Island is a much more beautiful place, than it is depicted here. Maybe my expectations were too high, because in my imagination this story was very different from this movie. In my opinion, the high rating points are caused by infatuated fans of Anne, whom are almost irrelevant the quality of the movie, just have a cinematization of it.
gcd70 Picturesque Prince Edward Island is the setting for this marvellous mini series about a talkative and highly imaginative young orphan girl who is taken in by a brother and sister who were looking for a boy to help them tend their farm.Megan Follows is wonderful as the dreamy Anne (with an 'e') Shirley, whose fiery temper and "feather brain ways" land her in hot water constantly. She plays the little girl growing up and coming to terms with reality and the challenges of life with real meaning. In support of her is the charming Richard Farnsworth and an outstanding Colleen Dewhurst as Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. The entire cast are in fact a real pleasure.Adding to this delightful film of L. M. Montgomery's novel is Hagood Hardy's music and the spectacular cinematography from Rene Ohashi. Kevin Sullivan directs with absolute assuredness as he delivers an impeccably well balanced show full of touching drama and charming humour, whilst his costume and set designers recreate the late 19th century with unerring accuracy."Anne of Green Gables" will do more than make you smile, it will have you positively beaming. An absolute must for all the family, and anyone who wishes to have their senses and emotions filled to the brim. Entirely disarming!Sunday, July 3, 1994 - VideoLucy Maud Montgomery's "Anne of Green Gables" has been splendidly adapted to the small screen by director Kevin Sullivan in this Canadian television production, recapturing the style and mood of the book and transporting the audience to the early 20th century with ease.Totally charming in every way, this two part mini-series fills one's heart with emotion and one's eyes with tears. It is entertainment in the purest form. Colleen Dewhurst is an absolute must as the strict disciplinarian Marilla Cuthbert, a hard woman hiding a soft heart of pure gold, she is irresistible, as is the disarming "Anne with an 'e'", Megan Follows, the girl blessed with a wild imagination and a temper to match. Follows has absolutely no trouble endearing the audience to Montgomery's lovable "Anne of Green Gables", and the same can be said about the entire support cast, but especially Richard Farnsworth as Marilla's brother Matthew, the gentle, shy old man who falls for Anne's foolish, feather-brained ways.Complimenting all the outstanding acting is Hagood Hardy's majestic score, Rene O'Hashi's spectacular cinematography ( which breathes life into the picturesque Prince Edward Island) and the wonderfully authentic costumes and sets.Unfortunately the sequel, "Anne of Green Gables Part II", failed to live up to this picture's delightful splendour.Sunday, July 16, 1995 - Video
