jakeyh-72744 I want to start off by saying that although this show was aimed at pre-teen girls, I am a male who was 21 when I first saw this show. It quickly became a guilty pleasure of mine and I think it deserves to be held in higher regard. I even made this IMDb account to write this review in its defense. The shows main success comes from the boys on screen chemistry. Even though they hark back to the archetypal boy bands of the 90s, with each member taking on a caricature type personality: Kendall – the down to Earth leader; James – the narcissistic 'good looking/talented' one; Logan – the smart one; Carlos – the energetic, 'young' one. Despite this basic character development, the guys actually excel in their roles and add just enough depth to make them relatable and watchable without trying too hard.Another excellent thing about this show is the writing. It's funny. Laugh out loud funny on more than one occasion. The characters are written well and they slot perfectly into any situation the writers through at them. Big Time Rush understands its direction perfectly and is quite happy to be silly, right up to the border of being cartoonish but without actually crossing that border. To add to the brilliant writing and fantastic chemistry between the boys, is the wonderfully developed plethora of side characters. A flaw in shows like this is that there are already four main characters jostling for air time and character development and to start trying to cram in any number of extra characters each week can quickly become too much for a show. This show delights in splitting the time between the boys and the other characters such as Kendall's mother and sister, Gustavo Roque and Kelly, as well as Reginald Bitters and his other Palm Springs residents. Each character is written and acted precisely on point with the tone of the show and offers brilliant character development for each of the boys as well as many laughs and entertaining side plots. Finally, I would like to mention the balance of the show. It's a show about four boys trying to become a successful boy band. Straight away it can easily get lost in the music and become more of a 20-minute music video than a show each week. However, I am pleased to say that there is just enough music that if you like BTR's songs, it will keep you happy but if they are far removed from your own musical pallet, there is just enough music time in the show to be utterly tolerable.Overall this is a fantastically fun show that I would highly recommend to adults and children alike. If you can keep your head out of your back side for the full 20-minutes each week, then I can promise you an enjoyable televisual experience that will bring about plenty of laughs and a satisfying watch.
laughongirl2000 BTR tried to use the same formula as Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, but it did not work out very well. I can't help but notice that the silly sound effects, and the characters' overall goofiness (and screaming) tries to make up for the pointless stories---which is normally about the boys fighting over girls, being disrespectful and just being plain stupid most of the time. The acting and comedy on BTR is forced to the point that I don't even laugh at it. Also, the show to me was just a gimmick to advertise their music, which I wasn't a fan of.Forced acting, boring stories, over kill on silly sound effects and slap-stick comedy...does not work.If you want to watch a show that was successful with the silly teen comedy formula, Watch Ned's Declassified instead. Unlike BTR, most of its viewers can relate to the tips that Ned gives (although most of the tips are exaggerated).
Ruthy Thomas I'm 15 years old and I truly love the show and the boys themselves. They are always sending out good messages and helping girls feel better about themselves. The show is funny & I love watching it.A lot of people think it's only for kids like 7 years old but it's really for anyone, I know so many teens that are older than me that love this show and the band in real life.Yes the show is a little predictable but almost every show on TV is now. This show is for everyone, it has romance, drama, comedy and much more. If u give them a chance than I'm 95% sure that you'll fall in love with them on screen and off screen.
SanteeFats This series is kind of sophomoric but it is also very funny. The four friends from Minnesota, hockey players at heart, get discovered as a singing group and are taken to Los Angeles for a demo. Of course the demo goes places and they get signed to a contract. They get put up at a fairly posh hotel along with one of the four's mother and younger sister. The younger sister, played very well by Ciara Bravo, is a bright spot with her smarts and ideas that she is always trying to turn a buck on. The mother is who keeps everyone grounded most of the time. Of course all four boys turn out to have girl problems at some point in the series and it is always cute and funny. At the start there are three girls at the hotel known as the Jennifer's because all are named Jennifer. They are stuck up and pretty as hell. They have since disappeared after a couple of seasons, I don't know why but it is a lose as far as I am concerned. Jo is Kendall's girlfriend and I can not get over her eyebrows at all. Lucy is back at the hotel and is after Kendall. If I were him I sure as hell would go for Lucy over Jo.
