tomcat_toolbox If you liked American Pie you will love this show.
CANpatbuck3664 Blue Mountain State wasn't on the air very long but it inspired enough of a following to get a crowd-funded movie. It didn't speak to everyone but it's easy to see why it was popular during it's run. There's always a fun party, some gross-out jokes that aren't afraid to play with taboo subjects and characters that can do almost anything they want and get away with it simply because they're talented athletes. It's escapist fantasy done well and I loved Blue Mountain State for it. There are reasons not to like this show (it's not PC and while there are worse depictions of women, this show is clearly made for men) but this is one of those exceptions to the rule for me. I love football and a comedy centred around seemed almost like it was meant for me.I hate to use the excuse that this show is it what it is but that pretty aptly describes this show. There's been comparisons to American Pie and that's not inaccurate. Don't start watching this show for subversive underlying messages or Aaron Sorkin style writing. You won't find them and it will be your fault for tuning in and not realizing what you're getting into. The characters are immature and they aren't thinking about the future. They want to play football, drink and do drugs, hook-up and then wake-up and do it again the next day. I would compare it to Entourage a little bit (people really turned on that show quickly but I still enjoy it). If that doesn't sound like your cup of tea, that's fine but this show wears what it is on its sleeve and I don't think it should be penalized for it.I remember describing this show to a friend of mine that's a big football fan and although he ended up loving the show too, the first thing he said was that for a show about football players, there isn't much football. He's right but I think it works for the show. You don't invest in how well the program is actually doing, you just want to get back to the team's crazy exploits off the field. There's never any game footage but I was always too busy laughing to care. Now that the disclaimer is out of the way, the thing to remember is that this is a parody. I happen to have played football past high-school level (in Canada not in the U.S) and I'll tell you this, my experience was nothing like this show. But they play it up and they transport you into this fantasy that being a football player in college is like being a God on campus. If you went to college, you party and you have fun and that's what this show is about. They create some pretty cool characters that have some crazy personality quirks (Alex's commitment to laziness, Thad's bizarrely strong loyalty to BMS, Radon's complete love of himself, or Harmon's love of any illegal substance). Characters move in and out of the show pretty seamlessly and it's a good job by the writers in finding new ways to keep these guys occupied with the quality of the show dropping off from season to season.Alex Moran is technically the show's main character and Darin Brooks is pretty good in the role. Alex could have been just a lazy jerk as a character but Darin embraces Alex's lack of commitment so well and he's funny. For me, the biggest reason to watch this show is the combination of Thad as a character and Alan Ritchson's performance. Alan is completely over-the-top as Thad Castle but he's hilarious. His character is a making fun of the dude-bro jock but without Alan, this show wouldn't work. Ed Marinaro is entertaining as the hard-ass Coach Marty Daniels, he doesn't have a ton of depth but he always has some new issue running the BMS football team. James Cade and Rob Ramsey are memorable in their small roles. Chris Romano did great work writing this show but I do agree that he's probably the weakest recurring actor in Blue Mountain State. Sammy is a little annoying in certain episodes and some of that is the writing but some of it is also Chris.I don't know what else I can say about Blue Mountain State. This is not an award-winning drama, it's an extended party comedy and I got what I wanted out of every episode. It's too bad it didn't go on longer but I think the movie Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland was a decent enough encore to wrap things up. I wouldn't recommend this show to everyone but this show is perfect for grabbing a couple of beers and watching it with your football loving friends.
Jonathan Andersson As a person whom doesn't enjoy all these mainstream thing right now like Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones. I really had a hard time finding something to entertain me with, until i found this series. I can safely say this is my favorite series ever. I've re-watched all the seasons many times, I even watched a whole season in one day.The simple but brilliant humor will entertain for hours and hours. Many people say this is like American Pie. Surely it has the same kind of humor but with a whole 'nother story behind it, and that is what I love about it. I really feels like all of this would happen at a college and the whole setting of the college is so realistic and all the characters are very love-able.If there is any series i would watch for the rest of my life, it would be this one.
tockwork I went on NetFlix after my friend told me about a show where football, sex, and drugs reigned supreme. This description didn't fall short and nor did the show.-slight spoiler from season 1- The characters are great while the 2nd and especially 3rd season fell a tad bit short with the absence of Shiloh who was the best character in season 1 since we watched him develop from the 1-girlfriend mentality to being king of the school. We really looked forward to him returning but ended up disappointed.Aside from that one flaw: the entire show is about the development of 2nd string QB and every episode seems to teach him different aspects of playing college football.. which is one of the series's strong points. The show will challenge authority as it reveals a dark side of college ball: Strict and questionable NCAA regulations, crazy football fans, rape allegations, and flat out DIRTY coaches. To sum it up: This show will show you a good time, it might inspire you to live your life more, and at the same time give you a glimpse at the sad dog-eat-dog attitude of college ball.Recommendations: The series has been over for a little under 2 years so I suggest you watch the TV series at a good pace.. I regret watching the entire show in 24 hours but I'll have my favorite episodes (Like "Drug Test").A movie MAY be coming, so keep an eye out.
