Reviews

rasecs When Denny Crane was introduced on The Practice I thought it would be too much having 2 nutjobs in the same law office. I was wrong. They even made room for several more. The wackiness works and the relationships between them all (especially Alan & Denny) are very amusing. Over time I've noticed some melding of characters and their speech patterns. The Alan Shore type monologues are being delivered by others now. That's understandable over time I guess and not as pervasive here as Shonda-speak or the West Wing patter. That is about as critical as I could get about such an enormously enjoyable series that isn't afraid to call out important controversial issues that still persist a decade later while occasionally taking a leak on the leg of the person feeding them. By the way, look at the cast members (and crew) that have come and gone. Whether recurring or one-offs, there are none better. Oh, and just one more thing, the music is always exceptional.
redwhiteandblue1776 I recorded the series and it started out ok. But by season two it became clear that the main (some could argue the only) reason for the program being aired was to promote left wing, liberal causes. I am kind of middle of the road political guy but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the producers and writers of Boston Legal politically are way out in left field. Each episode pushing a different liberal belief. All characters who show any conservative leanings, any Republican or government official was shown to be slow minded, idiots or at least pretty whacky. (ie Denny Crain) The Democrats and liberals are portrayed as smart, clever and very capable. And of course of the court cases handled by the left leaning lawyers (who always win) give them the opportunity to preach the lefts political point of view.If it weren't for the quirky charters, the show would be pretty boring listening to pure talking points from the Democratic Party. After all, both side present their cases in court and then the attorney from Crain, Poole and Schmit gets up and give a brilliant closing argument and wins. Aside from that, the men in the law firm seem to be quite successful in their sexual exploits with beautiful young women. So it's a mystery why they all want to bed Sherley Schmit played by Candice Bergen. Come on! She may have been very attractive in her earlier years, but Boston Legal wasn't filmed during her earlier years. When this show was made she was 20 years older than the other women on the show who run around the law office flaunting their stuff. The law firm is portrayed as being very successful and taking in vast amounts of money. Yet most of the clients that are represented have little or no money. I found that odd.Apparently there is no HR department at this firm to handle sexual harassment complaints. Yikes! Of course most of the harassed women give a mild mention of it then end up having sex with the guy anyway. It all makes for fun and games, but certainly appears to be a bit over-the-top when it comes to office romances and sexual funny business. It appears the sexual escapades are exploited to attract viewers, and then they are clobbered with the left wing's political hammer.
Deathracer I would have never even bothered to watch this show if it wasn't for cable. There was this advertisement saying this show has won this many awards and etc. which made me compelled to check it out. Probably the best decision I made because this show made me re-think about the shows I watch and also think about reality.James Spader and William Shatner is unbelievable. Shatner as "Danny Crane" is superb to watch. The way Spader gives a "closing" just blows your mind. With his passion and acting, the facts may be true or false, but you will believe every word that comes out of "Alan Shore" in the court room. I will never forget his "closing" against a big tobacco company.Another thing is how this show, shows all types of discrimination in the working world. Skin, height, behavior and how you ignore the best in people because of these. Show is entertaining in many ways but the issue was too much political discussions. This may be a reason it stopped, because I can't think of another, it is that good!! However it is better to end like this than dragging way too long......
kunj-patel So, as med school sometimes gets very repetitive, I have occasioned to keep up with certain television shows--yes, given it up several times...the last time almost for sure...that is until I discovered Boston Legal!I don't know if you've ever seen it, or what your opinion is on it---but show is amazing. It's so damn clever--thoughtful, inspiring, downright hilarious. It's intellectual, it's emotional, hell I don't even get TV guilt for watching it--because it's a higher caliber version of television. It shows what TV shows could aspire to be, if they weren't all forced to be aimed at a public which has an average education at the 8th grade literacy level. (I apologize for framing the statement that way---but after all...Jersey Shore...)Anyways, it's a fantastic legal comedy-drama. The closing arguments from Alan Shore are honestly some of the best speeches on the internet. If you don't believe me, check it out yourself.I liked so many of the episodes. The ones written by David E. Kelly tend to be the best (check online to see writer of each episode before watching)."The Court Supreme" is great, "Juiced" is fantastic for its commentary on TV entertainment, and so many other episodes are really thought provoking. One thing is that the show does have quite a bit of political commentary. Both liberal and conservative are represented in the lead characters, though the show does give a bigger stage to Alan Shore (who is more on the left). Anyways, I was just wondering why no one is talking about this great show, and to point it to your attention if you were unaware.
