Reviews

Tony Ocean Well, where to start. In today's TV there's so much variety that there's something for every taste, but this show gets unfairly slagged so hopefully anyone reading this will give it a chance without dismissing it just from unfavorable reviews which have no real grounding anyways. There's drama, comedy, love stories, crime, family, friendship and social diversity exploration all combined with well chosen and composed cast, which should satisfy your need for a deep, but at the same time not too burdening or overly complicated story that you can follow weekly and not feel like you wasted your time by watching it.Of course there are some flaws in it, but nothing is perfect, and if you give it a shot I think you'll learn to appreciate it more and more by each episode you see.Give it a chance, that's all I'm saying.
peabody000 ***SPOILER***This was a great idea. I looked forward to seeing David S in a good dramatic role. The first few episodes were tough because it was pretty formula stuff with nothing new to offer aside from the premise. The organized crime and drugs is unnecessary and leaves little room for an interesting new drama around the struggle to open a restaurant in an unlikely neighborhood. It's so unrelentingly tragic and sad that it is very hard to watch. But I hoped that once the restaurant opened we'd be given a break and some lighter, happier moments. Except I can't get that far. Here's where you lost me completely - the sex between Dion and Pilar. He has been a complete ass to her, treated her with no respect. She calls him on his FRAUD and he tries to kiss her? When she slapped him hard I was glad to show that a woman can handle sexual harassment in the workplace in her own, albeit violent, way. Then she has sex with him? Forget it. I'd love for you to find a way to fix this. It will start with a new writing staff. Sorry, but it's just too unbearably dreary and unoriginal to love.
CinemaZealot57 I was looking forward to this show. I kind of like Schwimmer. I nearly always use a DVR. So I watched the episode of their 'soft' opening a day or so after it aired. In that episode Pilar busts Dion on his not providing receipts then finding out the receipts are all fake. Dion has mostly abused Pilar since she showed up. Pilar is hot for Schwimmer. Pilar confronts Dion about the fake receipts. Dion acts like his usual criminal self. He ends up stealing kiss, she gives him a pretty respectable right handed punch to the face. And then of all things they end up screwing each other's brains out. I don't buy it. Schwimmers character may have been flaking on Pilar but that just doesn't add up to her having angry sex with Dion. While they were doing their business I called BS and erased the episode and dropped the series recording. What ever happened to reasonable plots???
kingbk-2 I really wanted to like Feed the Beast. AMC has made some outstanding TV shows that push the limits on excellent television creation such as Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and The Walking Dead. I also like David Schwimmer and was looking forward to seeing him in a drama instead of a comedy. Having watched about three episodes, I'm slowly losing more and more interest and wonder if I'll make it through this season. There are many things wrong with this series. First off, the show is very paint by the numbers in how it's constructed. You've got the widower single father, who is in a deep depression because he lost his wife to a car accident. You have his son, who refuses to talk and expresses his pain through sketches. You have the best friend, who was let out of jail and now wants a fresh start. He's the rebel with a heart of gold. You have the mafia, who is coming after the best friend for past debts and will take out teeth if he isn't paid, aka his nickname, the tooth fairy. You have the estranged father, who is a racist bigot who thinks his son is a wimp. You have the naive Hispanic girl, who has a crush on Schwimmer and lies to help him out. You have the restaurant. Ho-hum.The writing and everything seems very intro to creative writing level stuff. The dialogue is bland and boring. The situations predictable. The drama forced. The emotion artificial. The acting is wooden and lacks meaning. This show is similar to Vinyl in that it adds unnecessary elements that detract from the quality of the show rather than add to it. Why is the whole mafia thing needed? I think a restaurant show would be interesting if you showed the effects of gentrification, of all the struggles with opening and running a restaurant, etc. That would make it a character drama and likely add layers instead of this watered down rewrite of the Sopranos. AMC was likely going to strike out on one of their shows eventually, and it appears they have here on Feed the Beast.
