Tweekums This series follows Makoto a teenaged witch from Yokohama who moves to a more rural part of Japan to continue her training with relatives who live there. Here she makes new friends and meet various other witches and supernatural beings such as the Harbinger of Spring and a ghost who works in a café.It could be argued that not much happens in this series… but that is its charm. The story is told at a very gentle pace, not that dissimilar to shows like 'Aria – The Animation' and 'Non Non Biyori'. Instead of action and tensions we are invited to observe a peaceful and charming world. The characters are all likable and distinctive and the background art perfectly suits the world it is set in. There are some laughs to be had in each episode but these are also gentle; funny things happen but it doesn't seem forced and there aren't obvious gags. Overall I'd certainly recommend this show to anybody wanting a totally inoffensive but enjoyable series. These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
forbesplaid I felt compelled to write about this series purely because of how much I have enjoyed it."Flying Witch" makes me happy. It isn't magical girl anime; no battles, no conflict, no one needs to be saved. It's a story centered around every day life. If you want a program you can lose yourself in, this is a great choice.Consistent in the mood and atmosphere it creates, "Flying Witch" is like a warm blanket on a cool, sunny day. The colors are mellow and slightly subdued. The pace of the show is relaxed and the soundtrack is an added bonus. Miwa and 96Neko perform the opening theme.I don't know how to classify this series, or if it even needs it. Slice of life, comedy, take your pick. It's easily become one of my favorites. I had no reservations giving this show a perfect rating.Beauty can be found in nature, people and even little animated television programs.
Julia Arsenault (ja_kitty_71) Here is another instant anime favorite. Now I wasn't sure whether to label the series fantasy or comedy. But I think it's a fantasy, slice-of-life series that is similar to the film "Kiki's Delivery Service."Based on a manga that I never heard of, this series about Makoto Kowata a witch-in-training for leaves Yokohama to Aomori with her black cat Chito, because it is an old tradition when a witch turns 15 years old she must leave to begin her training. But since this is the 21st century, her parents think it's best that she should stay with her cousins Kei and his little sister Chinatsu. From watching the first three episodes, I automatically love the series! With plenty of fantasy, humor, beautiful animation and also a very catchy opening theme song. So overall, my last word is that this is an awesome anime to enjoy.
