jlimebrook Fresno was absolutely hilarious. The actors' delivery was completely deadpan, and all the laughs came from the ridiculous convolutions of the plot, which were only slightly more ridiculous than Dallas or Falconcrest. Fresno received a well-deserved award for casting, featuring a raft of stellar comedians including Charles Grodin and Teri Garr. As I recall the show did not do well in the ratings. The actors played it so straight that there may have been a lot of viewers who just didn't get it. That seemed to be the opinion of the producers, who added a laugh track when they re-prised the miniseries a few months after it debuted. This of course ruined the whole effect, and it probably did even worse in the ratings than the first run. I really wish someone would dig up a tape and put this out on DVD.
Progger1953 I was contacted in 2002 by Fox TV and they wanted me to send them the series on tape. They said that when they did a search, I was the only person on the internet that showed that I had a copy. They were willing for me to name my price. I only charged $40 for 4 tape. I actually had to re-record the original recordings to take at the commercials originally. Too bad I just didn't record them at "sp" speed and save them for dvdrs. Though I do have them on dvdr, but not the best of quality. I asked these guys why they contacted me and they said that they were going to do a TV series and hope that Fresno gives them some ideas. Notice the weird brother on Fresno and David Cross on AD. Also the form of transportation on fresno is an older chevy station wagon with the back seat facing out. On ad they have the passenger transport truck from an airport. I just wish I could remember the names of the Fox people who I talked to and sent the tapes to.
supertechtoo I have a two VHS set of tapes of FRESNO that appear to have been distributed by "Terry Blood Distribution" out of England (licensed by MTM).Now - I found this on Ebay of all places and was quite surprised to find that they were commercial reproductions. Quality is fair to mediocre but all the comedy is there. There have been some DVD's listed but I'm sure they are either fan-produced or copies of tapes like these.Since there is a ten line minimum for comments I'll add that this version has no laugh track as has been mentioned on some of the rebroadcast versions.Personally, the comedy is more apparent when the laugh track is omitted since this was never shot as a stage performance.
Gokyo This soap spoof is really the best I've ever seen. For a distracted viewer, it would have appeared as a genuine soap with idiotic plots to catch your attention. The cast, especially Carol Burnett and Dabney Coleman, were really "into" their roles. Torch is the epitome of the "pool boy" type of character you always find in the Dallas/Dynasty kind of series. I wish I could get my hands (and eyes'n'ears) on a copy of this "mini" as it is referred to.
