Reviews

angelacere I've watched the show since I was in kindergarten. It never crossed my mind that it's black and white. It is the best show. It's got so much history. Lucy was the reason I got into comedy. She's an inspiration. Desi is an inspiration for me as well. It never gets old. It'll never go away and we're not gonna let it.
amexspam The supposed goal of a comedy is to make one laugh. Using that basis, I Love Lucy fails. It's simply not that funny. It can be absurdist, it has funny situations, it has "jokes" with punchlines, but in 50 years I've never laughed at anything on the show and only occasionally smiled, nor can I remember anyone watching with me that ever laughed. It's not only Lucy that fails the laugh test. Almost every sitcom of the '50s through '70s was written by writers that came from the Borscht Belt circuit. This was why almost every sitcom is similar with many pratfalls, contrived situations to create embarrassment, and at least one double-take in every episode. This is not to disparage the cast; the acting was uniformly good. However, if laughter was the objective, this show missed.
Syl I Love Lucy was more than just a sitcom. It was beginning of television situation comedies. Lucille Ball was already a television and radio actress. Jess Oppenheimer was the creative force behind Lucy. With him and head writers, Madelyn Pugh and Bob Carroll Jr., they created some of television's most memorable moments. The execution of their writing was done by a first rate cast. The multi talented Lucille Ball played Lucy Ricardo. Her real life husband and partner, Desi Arnaz, played her musician husband and band leader, Ricky Ricardo. The supporting cast was Fred and Ethel Mertz. They were played beautifully by film and vaudeville veteran William Frawley and theatre actress Vivian Vance. Lucy and Ethel's friendship was key in the show's success. Ironically Ricky and Fred became close friends off screen as well from the show. Frawley and Vance may have personally disliked each other but were professional enough for the show. This show had many breakthroughs. You couldn't have asked for a better show!
anthony-rigoni To be honest, I think "I love Lucy" should receive a 10/10 on IMDb and why? Because I love Lucy, you love Lucy, and we all love Lucy! Lucille Ball stars as Lucy Ricardo, wacky wife of Ricky Ricardo(Desi Arnaz), a famous conga drum player(he's known his hit song "Babalu".) They live next door with their landlords Ethel Mertz(Vivian Vance) and Fred Mertz(Bill Frawly). And, when it comes to Lucy Ricardo, there's no stopping the memorable laughs! Now, let me introduce you to two of 10 of my favorite episodes...Lucy Does a TV Commercial- Lucy gets drunk from Vitavetavigimin during a commercial shooting. Every time she drinks that stuff, she becomes more and more loopy! I couldn't stop laughing! Home Movies- During a showing of Ricky's "Home Movies" many clips are mixed in with his song. And when it got to the point where the movie was going backwards and fast-forwarded, I almost laughed my head off! You'll love Lucy, Ricky, Ethel, and Fred in the classic TV series "I Love Lucy"! I guarantee you'll be laughing so hard, you'll fall out of your seats! I recommend this show to anyone who loves Lucy! 1000000/10
