smetin I used to love watching this show as a kid and since I found it again on DVD at the ripe old age of 25 I decided to give it another whirl! Jackie Chan Adventures follows Jackie Chan, his Uncle (Uncle), and his niece (Jade) as they try to protect the world against the forces of evil. What really sets this show apart from others is its villains usually have some sort of middle eastern background without falling into the trap of the typical white wrongdoer. It is probably the main reason why I still have so many distinct memories from episodes of this show, which gave me a major sense of nostalgia as I watched it. I used to - and still - love Jackie Chan. He is such a brilliant actor, but also comes across as a guy who is down to earth, genuine and fun. This is something that really comes through in the TV show. The shows are well written and their plots are well-conceived. If any actor could be portrayed as a (super)hero in their own right, Jackie Chan is that guy! At the end of every episode we also have the added treat of the real-life Jackie being asked questions by kids. From 'what is your favourite food?' to 'how many types of martial arts do you know?', there are plenty of questions! What I also loved about it was that Jackie tended to go off on a tangent for most questions and never really answered them...Of course, much of the humour is directed for a younger audience, but there were still many jokes that made me giggle! Indeed, there was even some adult humour littered across episodes that are probably for the benefit of many parents who end up watching it with their children. Aside from their humour, many of the episodes have a few strong key messages, such as the importance of family, friendship, being truthful and so on. Again, many cartoons lack this element altogether, or fall on the opposite end of the spectrum and are no longer fun to watch. Jackie Chan Adventures somehow gets into this middle ground and this is another thing that really sets it apart from other cartoons. Of course, this show is not perfect. Some of the jokes got repetitive and the goofy nature of Jackie sometimes put the episode a bit off-balance. I also felt that season 2 (demon doors) was a bit of a slump for the show as it really did not give each of the demons enough facetime. Since some of them were quite interesting, having them on-screen for 5 minutes before they were dragged back to their prison felt a bit lacklustre.Taken together, Jackie Chan Adventures is a great show. It is not only fun to watch as a child, as I still enjoyed watching it as an adult! If you are looking for a cartoon for your child to watch this would be a great one. It is diverse, well-conceived and solves the dilemma of making cartoons educational without making them boring. As Uncle would say, 'Haaaachaaaaaaaa!'

thacdalia The writers/producers of this series deserve a lot of credit. Somehow they've created an edgy, often wickedly funny animated series that conveys a healthy family in which everyone has importance; old people are still valued (Uncle rules!), girls are smart, cute, and kick butt (Jade IS all that), and the family can include close friends (Toru and his mom). The story lines are interesting and unusual. My kids love it and so do I. Yes, not like, love. If only most prime time shows were this well crafted. The problem for us is - UPN and Fox canceled this gem in favor of some unwatchable crapola!!! AIIYAAA!! How do we bring it back? Anyone know?If DVD's were available, that would be cool too.

gears_chatroom_god I first encountered "Jackie Chan Adventures" by accident, while flipping channels one day. It was the first episode of the show, and as soon as I found out what it was, I laughed out loud at the ridiculousness of the show's concept, thinking it would be pretty awful.As the first season progressed, I soon learned how wrong I was. A hugely witty, fast-paced, well-written show, with a great mix of action, comedy and a supernatural edge that all blended together to create a truly enjoyable TV experience. The high point of the season was surely the appearance of Hak Foo, who, with his massive build, extravagent hair, and urge to give names to his attack techniques, was clearly a well-aimed swipe at "Dragonball Z."The fact he was voiced by Jim Cummings was a bonus, too.However, for me, the second season has proved to be something of a disappointment. For starters, it begins with a double-dose of episodes which are set at different points DURING the first season, which really confused me, as it wasn't clearly stated. Then, the third episode was set in real-time, but was just a filler episode before the main season plot started. And there is where this season falls down.FILLER.The primary plot of the season is that Shendu has returned, and is seeking to free his demon bretheren from their interdimensional prison. A very good idea, which furthers the supernatural element of the previous season and kicks it up a couple of notches. And yes, when a demon appears in the series, it's a sign the episode will be a good one.However, this season is nearly three times as long as the first one - but there are only seven demons. Hence, for every episode with a demon, there are roughly two or three episodes that are totally unrelated, and are nothing more than filler material where some random myth or legend is explored (and quite commonly bastardized). Often, the fillers are very poorly written, as well - a HORRIBLE episode about the Chupacabra comes to mind. It was quite possibly one of the worst things I've seen on television of late).I get the impression that the filler episodes would be a lot better if they actually involved the Dark Hand, who are, to be honest, the only source of comedy in the show that's actually FUNNY (with the exception of Uncle, but he has not had nearly enough to do this season, other than use the phrase "chi spell" far, FAR too much). Though for some reason, Hak Foo, who is now a regular Dark Hang member in this season, is not nearly as funny as in season one. Perhaps it's because he only really worked for comedy purposes as a one-shot character, or maybe it's 'cause Cummings is no longer doing his voice.This season is increasingly being dragged down by the fact they may as well rename it "Jade Chan Adventures." Jade is becoming the driving force behind every non-demon episode, and is FAR too involved in the demon episodes for the liking of myself or anyone else that I've discussed the show with. She's an annoying character, who is one of those individuals you *really* wish you could smack, but ya can't, 'cause it's just a cartoon. Her irritating pre-teen "gag me with a spoon" voice and attitude are, I would guess, supposed to make the show accessible to girls of her age, but they just annoy the hell out of everyone else.The second season finale has not yet aired here in Ireland at the time of this writing, but it's coming soon, and hopefully it will make up for the fluctuating quality of this season.

dragon ma young I never really watch too much TV, and i almost never watch cartoons, but i was flipping through the channels on morning and noticed this. A Jackie Chan cartoon? Thats a really good idea, so little kids can get a taste of the Jackie we know and love! Not a bad show either. I dont think it has enough fighting for a Jackie Chan cartoon, but it still had some, and the humor was present. Ive seen the show a couple of times now, and it has never ceased to entertain. Little kids who cant watch R-Rated (for NO good reason) Jackie movies like Drunken master 2 and Supercop, should definately check this out, its a fun ride of a show.
