Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire is a British-American comedic sword and sorcery series created by Peter A. Knight, co-produced by Hat Trick Productions and Media Rights Capital for Comedy Central and BBC Two, which premiered on April 9, 2009 in the USA and on June 11 in the UK. It began airing on July 8 in Canada, on Citytv. In August 2009, it was reported that the series was canceled after Comedy Central pulled out of the production, but the BBC has retracted this claim, stating that a second series could be produced if they were able to gain a new funding partner. According to Jimmy Mulville of Hat Trick Productions, "There is a bit of misinformation going on. As far as the writers and the controller of BBC comedy and the controller of BBC2 and Matt Lucas are concerned, we are developing a second series."

Reviews

Gord Bestwick There are a few reviews which state the obvious about this show: Shakespeare it ain't! This is a wonderful blend of the adventure of Xena, and the comedy writings of Robin Hood: Men in tights. The show follows a questionably talented band of people who assist the prophesied Krod Mandoon on a quest to stop Dungalor from using the Eye of Gulga Gyrmna. For the type of show the characters are well developed, albeit bordering on stereotyped, and even though there were only 6 episodes they still managed to evolve over time. The sets and locations were fantastic. The costuming was absolutely stunning. The actors and actresses were fantastic. One of the things that I really enjoyed about this was that the characters weren't 1 dimensional. I can honestly say that I know people like every major character. It is clear that this is a show that requires a season to get the audience hooked, and then could be a long running classic. To the BBC: Get the funding and get this going again. You'll kick yourself in 20 years if this becomes another cult classic like Faulty Towers and you only produced 6 episodes.
RogerBorg Each 60 minute episode manages to fit about 10 minutes of writing into what feels like a 4 hour marathon. Every so often, it raises a chuckle, but there's far too high a dross-to-gold ratio to make the effort worthwhile. The cast are largely unappealing, with the obvious exception of the banging hot India de Beaufort - it's just a shame that she can't act, and doesn't have a character to play even if she could.None of the cast are much cop, although Sean McGuire does at least put some gusto into it, and Matt Lucas and Roger Allam at least bother to phone in their usual competent performance. The rest of the supporting actors are uniformly awful, turning in performances that would shame an understudy in a village panto. The highlight - and this is faint praise - are the sets, which are a step above the usual BBC shaky-plasterboard. The cinematography is decent too, and the score isn't too out of place. Unfortunately, the sound mix is dreadful, with the dialogue far too muted and the effects too jarring. It's not totally unwatchable, but the problem the BBC have is that they're competing with hundreds of channels now, and it's much easier to condemn or ignore Krod than to recommend it. Doubtless they'll label it "cult" and hope to claw their money back in DVD sales, but they've blown too much of our license money on the budget and produced too little substance in return to earn the requisite credibility or goodwill. Krod's destiny lies in the bargain bin.
Nick-2314 One of the only shows I actually don't want to miss. As for the IQ comment's I have a IQ over 130 and my Father has one over 140 and we both love this show. It has witty innuendos, smart humor and references. I especially love how they make fun of them selves and the genre it's self.Like the underpowered wizard who constantly tries to prove his abilities by lying or how Krod is a freedom fighter yet he has a slave to name a few.I just love every thing about this show. So bring me a tub of goose fat and a clean sock because I'm sticking to the tube with flaming sword in hand for this one.
benji-71 The commercials didn't make me laugh but they did catch my interest. I had Tivo grab the first episode. I wasn't expecting much, but I soon found myself laughing out loud - a LOT. Krod Mandoon has quickly become one of my favorite shows. It's a campy medieval comedy packed with great characters. From what I've seen in reviews, people either love it or hate it. I think some people don't get that it's meant to be campy. It's not going to have a tight plot with brilliant acting - it's supposed to be a low-budget romp. Some of the moments of humor are totally unique, too - things I've never seen before, and they surprise me so much I have to hit pause so I can ROFL. Dongalor, the bad guy, is particularly funny. And somehow they managed to give everybody the worst hair I've ever seen. It's stunning. Anyways, I love this show.
