Reviews

fedor8 "I wanted this reality show so that people could see the truth." - Dina Lohan.First of all, the two REAL reasons she launched this show are obvious to all except the most comatose viewer: 1) so she could make even more money - it's never enough with those people: Dina would sell her arms for the right price, let alone her privacy; 2) the show is a DESPERATE attempt by Dina to launch Ali's almost unlaunchable career. Ironically, Dina was right about the "truth" part: this series reveals the full extent of Dina's bitchiness, egomania, and disregard for anyone who isn't a member of her family. If it was her intention to polish up her severely damaged image by editing this thing into something pro-Lohan, then she has miscalculated (or mis-edited) quite badly. Dina makes Hillary Clinton seem like the symbol of modesty and saintliness by comparison. She even makes Sharon Osbourne look like a sweet, mild-mannered housewife.Actually, one could even argue that Dina Lohan doesn't care much for her kids, either. After all, Lindsay has grown up to be such a great person, huh? Theft, alcoholism, drunk-driving, showing skin on children's award shows, exposing her fake breasts to paparazzi, drug-addiction, anorexia, near-bankruptcy, lack of professionalism on movie sets, tit-job at 16, bar-brawls with the likes of Paris Hilton, and now even sudden lesbianism. What's next for this beautiful but confused girl? Perhaps cannibalism? Incest? Nothing would surprise me any more... Oh, but of course, Dina would correct me (and then cut off my head) by saying that all those headlines were lies and sheer fabrication. I think it's the opposite: we haven't even seen half of Lindsay's decadence, just a fraction of it. Imagine all the stuff they successfully hide from us...So instead of Dina learning from her past mistakes hence sparing her other kids that kind of a nasty lifestyle, what does she do? "Hell, there's more from where THAT came from. Ali, you're up next!" Dina is a cold, money-hungry, manipulative, pathologically ambitious nouveau riche neo-diva that - like so many parents of tennis stars - has made it her mission to exploit her kids in order to accomplish through them all those things that she never achieved herself, due to her stupidity and lack of talent. A deep-seated inferiority complex, exhibitionism and greed are what drive her. That she would do this once (with Lindsay) is hardly forgivable, but that she'd actually throw her 14 year-old daughter into the pit of vipers that is show business is almost criminal. Couldn't she at least have waited till ugly Ali turned 16?Here we get to the next problem. Ali isn't even talented. She sings like an average candidate from "Idol". Whereas Lindsay was gorgeous (WAS, before she became an anorexic stick) and charismatic, Ali looks absolutely hopeless (with no resemblance to her older sister what-so-ever) and comes off as a supremely spoiled brat who seems to think that the world owes her a shot at fame. In that regard she is just like her mother."I want to make people happy when I'm on the stage." - Ali Lohan. The only way that gangly teen will make the crowds happy is by getting OFF the stage. "Make people happy..." Who told her to say that? Naturally, she meant that she wanted to be as rich and popular as her dumb sister. At one point she even says that she considers Lindsay as her role-model. It's perfectly normal for Ali to love her sister (though who knows how much envy will develop later on) but a "role-model"?... Does this mean Ali wants the drugs, alcohol and rehab as well? Just as brain-dead as the other Lohans, the poor thing. The show is watchable, though, but for all the wrong reasons, like watching a train wreck (as with nearly all reality shows). Barely anyone is likable. Instead, we get yet another glimpse at the decadence, shallowness, and stupidity that is at the core of today's pop music world. We also get to see how a cash-driven woman will stop at almost nothing to milk more money out of the rest of her offspring, once the first star, Lindsay, has left the home and become more independent. The show should dispel any illusions that anyone might still have about the world of show-business: it's about who you know and who you're related to. Silly concepts such as "talent" don't even enter into it anymore. Ali's album is prepared the way Coca-Cola launches a new product on the market. There's plenty of unintentional humor, which is the best thing about Living Lohan. Dina constantly referring to Ali as an "artist" is simply too much to bear! In one episode Ali says she would like to do hip-hop... I had to laugh. On the other hand, why not? If Kanye West and 50 Cent can be considered "artists", making idiots of themselves spitting "rhymes", then how much worse can Ali be at it? I'm also disgusted but at the same time amused by Dina's obsessive paranoia regarding the tabloids and the news media: she is constantly threatening people with legal actions, constantly seeking out and finding texts that are supposedly designed to hinder her daughter's career. Does Dina have a bit of a problem with truth? And yes, I agree with a comment posted here: where the hell is Lindsay in all this? Has she suddenly become camera-shy? Or is it because she would steal all of the spotlight from homely, geeky Ali?
Gram If you've seen a trailer then you know exactly what to expect from this show. Its a successful format, the Osbournes, Snoop Dogg: Fatherhood, Hogan knows best etc. One problem: Where's lindsay? I don't know if she was present in some of the scenes but cut/dubbed out? Did they cut all scenes containing her? Everything referring to her has been blurred out (newspaper/web articles) except pictures around the house, even phone calls with her as the subject are dubbed out. In my opinion the show appears very heavily edited and this ruins the feel of it for me. The usual purpose of this sort of show is to give publicity to the big star of the family, I'm not too sure what the goal of this show is without any Lindsay!? One could speculate but after watching the show I'd be afraid of getting sued!
