EP6  Randolph Caer
Nov. 24,2006
Randolph Caer

Dean's planned guest for the show was celebrated British character actor Randolph Caer, who starred in films as diverse as Bitch Killer and That Duck 3: Duck in the City. Tragically, however, Randolph died the morning before the show's transmission, and so Dean puts on a 'celebration of his life, through the eyes of those who knew him best. A kind of This is Your Death'. Dean does this by showing sections of archive footage and calls on previous guests including Garth Marenghi, Steve Pising, Glynn Nimron and Amir Chanan to pay their respects to the late actor.

EP5  Amir Chanan
Nov. 17,2006
Amir Chanan

Amir Chanan is a self-proclaimed 'Master of the Psychic Arts' and has acted as Dean's 'personal spiritual guru' for the past twenty years. Blessed, since the age of six, with the extraordinary ability to 'bend keys by rubbing them lightly between thumb and forefinger', Amir has come to be one of the world's most renowned but controversial psychics. He talks about his alleged abduction by the government in 1979, his new self-help DVD Bath Buddies, and takes calls from the audience.

EP4  Merriman Weir
Nov. 10,2006
Merriman Weir

In this special musical edition of Man to Man Dean talks with one of the most revered folk guitarists of his generation, Merriman Weir. Merriman plays an acoustic set of his own brand of deeply melancholy folk, but thankfully holds back from playing some of his more depressing numbers. (He once played a song so sad he made a flock of geese die).

EP3  Glynn Nimron
Nov. 03,2006
Glynn Nimron

Dean chats to another of his favourite clients, the 'towering figure in the world of Sci-Fi cinema for the home video market', Glynn Nimron. Glynn, star of countless movies, including Time Whackers, The Lactator and Frisk City Delta is best known for his gender-bending role as Bot 'the alien with a human heart' in television series Galacticops.

EP2  Steve Pising
Oct. 27,2006
Steve Pising

Dean chats with former four time Formula 5 Motor Racing World Champion Steve 'The Accelerator' Pising, who started out in motor racing in the '80s with Dean's own racing team 'The Dean Team'. He was the most famous driver The Dean Team ever had, but he may now be better known as the spokesman for a major hair-restoral company.

EP1  Garth Marenghi
Oct. 20,2006
Garth Marenghi

Dean's first guest is his former Darkplace co-star Garth Marenghi, making his first public appearance since his 'terrible accident' which caused him to lose an ear. He talks of his latest book The Oeuvre, which includes all 436 of his existing novels 'in one easy to read volume'. Also he gives us a tour of his studio where he's been adding painting to his considerable list of talents, and we are shown an exclusive clip of his feature film War of the Wasps.

Reviews

Jackson Booth-Millard When I first saw the advert for this spoof chat show, I immediately recognised Richard Ayoade from The IT Crowd playing Dean Learner. Throughout the show Learner invited fake guests played by Matthew Holness (who played Garth Marenghi), Matt Berry (who played Sanchez), Kim Noble and Stuart Silver. It was mainly just humorous chat and the audience reaction, but there were clips of fake television shows and their fake career traits and trends focused on in episodes. It was not always the funniest comedy/spoof show I had ever seen, but it was Richard Ayoade as well as the unusual fake guests that made it quite an enjoyable original show. Good!
samrudland This is a very strange series with Dean Learner. I really didn't understand the guests. I knew they weren't serious but whether they were really them was unclear because...i guess i'm just that stupid. I don't know if this classes as a spoiler but the guests aren't real like in Ali g or anything they're played by one man or so i believe. I love the serious look that he's got going on. Its like that programme that was on on a Sunday morning that i forget the name of lol. I also really like the suit and moustache thing he has got going on. Its quite hot. He's insensitive which is one of the funniest qualities. I also like the way he has subsections of the programme. It makes it seem more authentic.
metal_slugger-1 The first episode of 'Man to Man with Dean Learner' that just aired was at least up to scratch with most episodes of 'Garth Marenghi's Darkplace' and had me at "My Maisonette". Hope it keeps up the good work of 'faux terribles' on my TV. Richard Ayoade is one of the best in the new breed of "alternative comedy"(I hate this phrase but am too lazy too think of another one.) comedians on TV today.I'm glad that on a trip of local DVD retailers today "Garth Marenghi's Darkplace" was sold out across the board. Even from his brief stint in Nathan Barley I knew that Ayoade was a serious talent and I'm sure he would have been great as Dixon Bainbridge in 'The Mighty Boosh' To continued success! In the vein of these programs I also felt it necessary to extend my review, in order to secure a place on this public domain.
thom_ohz A spin off comedy talk show from the creators of 'Garth Marenghi's Darkplace' The new series, Man to Man with Dean Learner, focuses on Garth's manager, publisher and publicity agent, as played by Richard Ayoade.Nightclub owner, restaurateur, publisher, international playboy - Dean Learner is a one-man brand. After his co-funded Channel 4 television hit Garth Marenghi's Darkplace he now invites you into his luxury penthouse flat for an all-new, entertaining and immensely stylish TV talk show.Man to Man with Dean Learner will feature all Dean's remaining celebrity friends, as well as plenty of live music and fine fish-dish cuisine in a show that reeks of class - but not fish!I attended two of the live recordings and it had me in stitches. There are distinct comparisons to Alan Partridge's 'Knowing me Knowing you' in the layout but Richard Ayoade and Matt Holness's unique writing style take it to another level. If your a fan of Darkplace then you can't miss it. Catch it when its aired late this summer
