Screenthoughts Hollister and O'Toole discuss the multi-Logie-winning drama "McLeod's Daughters" (2001-2009) – at its height, the most popular show on Australian TV. Still enjoying a cult following around the globe (and available on Netflix and Hulu), McLeod's was filmed on location – telling the tale of two sisters running a cattle station ("Drover's Run") in the Australian Outback. Not only did the actors have to learn their lines and hit their marks, they had to ride horses and shear sheep – convincingly.A special guest (and equestrian expert) weighs in: Shanette Barth Cohen, Executive Director of The Hampton Classic Horse Show (one of the biggest show jumping contests in the U.S.).O'Toole, who would love to live in the Outback (if only she could get up early!) might never recover from a particular episode in Season 3 (seriously). Whereas Hollister (far more resilient) is ready to leave our show and open "Hollister's Run" out West. Shanette wonders if just watching the beautiful cinematography has given both Hollister and O'Toole sunstroke. This podcast is not unlike a McLeod's episode: a group of women sharing their passionate opinions – against a backdrop of laughter.Podcast features: interview with international bestselling author Posie Graeme-Evans (writer; creator; producer, McLeod's Daughters) as well as music from the show (how can one not hum along)?Podcast available at: http://screenthoughts.net/podcast/mcleods- daughters/
greysanatomy512 This is honestly one of the most brilliant and beautiful shows that I have ever had the absolute pleasure to watch. It is one of those shows that you can easily sit down and marathon through an entire disc or two in one sitting. The characters are really well fleshed out as this is more of a character driven show. The countryside setting isn't always my favorite but for Mcleod's I make an exception as Drover's run is now one of my favorite television show settings. The scenery is always breath-taking and the dialog is really intelligent as the conversation flows naturally. When disaster strikes it hurts the viewer to watch their favorite characters pass on, especially since the actors and actresses have hardly been on anything else it makes it all the more realistic when they depart (which is a shame because they are really talented actresses). The Australian landscape is hauntingly beautiful and adds to the seductive factor of the show. The characters leave too soon. The new characters (although they do take a bit of getting used to) end up stealing the show, especially Regan, Kate and Moira. The soundtrack is from an Australian singer- Rebecca Lavelle- and sometimes the actors of the show, such as Michala Banas, record their own songs for the show. The show is definitely one not to miss and if I wasn't going to spoil anything for you I would honestly chat with you for 10 hours straight on the entire series. An extremely underrated series please give it a watch.
jts1412 We discovered this series before the movie. I'm glad certain things were changed for the TV show(Tess the reason for Jack's demise). We were hooked and couldn't wait for the next disc. Love seeing strong women who prevail through trial and error. We were not sure we would want to continue after Claire's accident, but very glad we did. Cast leaves and new characters appear. In the US this would be a death knell for the show. But,McLeods survives. Stevie becomes a pivotal character. Through the seasons the main theme is how difficult life can be living off the land. The scenery is gorgeous making you wish you could be there. Having friends in the industry in Losangeles,I know how difficult it is to keep viewers coming back season after season. The writers do a pretty good job of this. Character development is also good. It's sad to see main characters exit, but new ones soon become ingrained in the storyline. We only wish the show would have had a couple more seasons to fully play out everyones story lines. Maybe a new Drovers' Run will appear w/ Xander and Charlotte and Jodi's kid being the newest characters running the operation. Stevie later in life as a prospective granny? Too bad Nick and Tess never reappeared later in the series, but was Glad to see Meg and Jodi. Watch the movie, then get the entire series. It will be well worth it. You don't have to cover your kid's eyes/ears. Or blush if you're grandmothers watching. NO F-BOMBS or other cussing that's so prevalent in US TV these days(Jersey UG! Shore and the like). Our biggest sadness was watching the last show and knowing Drovers' has ridden into the sunset. SIDE NOTE: Check out Lisa Chappell's and Abi Tucker's music.Good stuff.
heavenly_heart_1 This is the story of two daughters that together with some other woman drives a farm in Gungellan, Australia. I think this drama is a wonderful production!! It is one of the best I've seen! The story is realistic and fun. And it's even great to see that women can drive a farm. You can see yourself in the characters, it's not like a typical soap where people do mad things every now and then. The nature is beautiful, as usual, in the scenes. Every set has an on theme, so you won't know what will happen in the next program. I think the best program were when Claire gave birth to little Charlotte. You have to see it to know why:)
