Reviews

michellegassaway This is a show that has not once but a million times made me (not only) laugh OUT LOUD to myself (and by myself), but also tear up like a baby without its binky, so frustrated I damn near spilt my remote in half, and feel so happy my heart warmed up like a piece of toast in the oven. As you can see I'm a huge fan, and felt so inspired to write this review right after watching the last episode, I'm still wiping away some tears, I'm expecting the movie to be not so awesome but I can't help but to continue the life of these impeccable women and there journeys through the wild city of New York. I grew up on the west coast my whole life, and after watching this show I have now visited to east side of the country, well New York City I should say, it gives off such a great example of how the ins n outs, the do's and donts, the weather, the people, the fashion, the gold parts and the dirt parts, and all around a taste of what it's like to live in the big apple. please women, if you have sex on your mind and the city in your heart. WATCH and be ready to get hooked
ntvnyr30 My fiancée has me watching "Sex and the City" and we are currently on the 3rd season and I noticed Sarah Jessica Parker listed as a producer. I can't believe that she would help perpetuate her own insipid, whiny character, Carrie. She is the least interesting of the 4 ladies. She wants her shining knight but then cavalierly sleeps with numerous men. She acts like such a screeching brat that I can see why Mr. Big married someone else. She smokes everywhere--at a skating rink, in other people's houses and even at an outdoor funeral. The show depicts NYC as a do-what-you-want type of place, but it's so restrictive thanks to Mayor Bloomberg that you can't even smoke in Central Park lest a skating rink! Miranda's character is the second least appealing. She is a smug know-it-all feminist lawyer who is in actuality self-conscious and not at all as confident as she seems. The reason why I continue to watch is for Kim Cattrall's character Samantha who is given the most entertaining role of all 4 women. She gets into the most hilarious situations and lightens the script from the two doom and gloom characters above. I also like Charlotte who is sweet and probably out of her league in cutthroat NYC.The show over-glamorizes the one-party borough, nanny-city of Manhattan.
Ana As I ran out of shows to watch while folding the laundry or doing school work I decided to give Sex and the City (a supposed classic) a shot. And I have to admit, for shallow entertainment it kept me hooked for quite a while, but my mistake was trying to take the show seriously. Only at this point do you see how it is actually wrong on so many levels. The characters are extremely unrealistic and shallow. It baffles me how four women with such successful and well paying jobs have time to hang out every single day and talk about sex. They also do not develop at all throughout the show, they keep showing the same stereotypical behavior which creates the drama they can bitch about in the first place over and over again, without learning from their mistakes. Now, I have never been to New York but to me it seems highly unlikely that every single man there is a sex hungry antichrist. One night stands are considered as normal as breakfast and there is no shame in being a woman in your mid thirties yet behaving like a 17 year old. These women are also experts at sweeping men of their feet yet in real life their behavior would be considered extremely unattractive. Whiny, bitter, spoiled and foulmouthed they don't even portray the C in Class. We should be seeing them as empowering but yet they do things that only someone with extremely low self respect would do to themselves. Since when has it become empowering for women to behave so cheap? Why do we have to behave like (some) men to show we are strong and independent? No intelligent girl or woman would approve of the message this show is trying to bring to us. Having said all this I want to remind you once again that you will only notice these things if you choose to take the show seriously, if however you just need some no-brain entertainment to fill your time, it's actually pretty okay!
Realrockerhalloween A romantic comedy about four women who prove life doesn't end at forty and enjoy the high life in the big city. Carrie Bradshaw, like hunting, writes a column about friendships, promiscuity and what it means to be feminine earning HBO recognition and criticism for challenging social norms. Like Carrie who decides to carry on one night stands with out emotional attachment or Miranda who decides to have a baby and proposes marriage to her boyfriend Steve.Sex in the city was never about nudity as the title may suggest, though its present, it was always about taboo or normal relationships as the girls are there for each other, support one another and though suggestive give good advice when they need a shoulder to cry on. It was never afraid to show the darker side of society by showing people hiding behind smiles and polite conversation. A charming artist could film his exploits, a neighbor could be a peeping Tom and a divorced dad can be Mr. Right. No wonder it's consider one of the one hundred best shows of all time. The clothes, camera shots, stories and true emotional appeal will keep you invested in this fabulous cosmopolitan world that looks artificial on the surface. You'll laugh, cry and have plenty of eye candy providing an excellent guilty pleasure to escape reality. I Love sex in the city , it's my favorite show.
