The 10th Kingdom is really an atrocious movie. I know that normally TV movies like this have lower standards and I was prepared for that. I was prepared for sub-par acting and bad special effects. But this movie is available. The acting by minor actors was unbelievable bad. But the surprising thing was actors like Dianne Wiest giving a really bad performance. I have seen a lot of movies in which she has a role, but she has never given a bad performance before.I don't know how that happens. How can good actors give such bad performances. Was the shooting rushed through? Were they not paid enough? Or did they instinctively knew that they can't save such a bad movie and decide to their worst. I sincerely don't know.I couldn't get through the whole thing. It is 7 hours long ! And frankly I was tired before the first hour was up. The story seemed very clichéd. Just a pale imitation of stuff that you had already watched elsewhere. I recommend that you avoid it at all costs.I really can't understand the good reviews. Do people have such low standards.

In New York, the lonely waitress Virginia Lewis (Kimberly Williams- Paisley) lives in a building on the edge of the Central Park where her father Tony Lewis (John Larroquette) is the janitor. Meanwhile, in the Snow White Memorial Prison, Relish the Troll King (Ed O'Neill) wears a pair of magic boots to become invisible and release his sons Blabberwort the Troll (Dawnn Lewis), Burly the Troll (Hugh O'Gorman) and Blue Bell the Troll (Jeremiah Birkett). When they are leaving the prison, they are summoned by the Evil Queen (Dianne Wiest) that offers half of the 4th Kingdom to Relish if he helps her in her evil plan. When Prince Wendell (Daniel Lapaine) arrives for a visit in the prison, the Evil Queen uses a magic dog and the prince swaps identity with the dog. However he escapes and the Evil Queen order the trolls to chase him and releases Wolf (Scott Cohen) to bring the prince back. However, the prince jumps in a magic mirror and falls over Virginia in the Central Park. Wolf and the trolls also jump in the Central Park hunting the prince. When Wolf meets Tony, he offers a magic beam with six wishes to know where Virginia is. Tony gets in trouble with his wishes and together with Virginia, they jump in the magic mirror to escape from the police and they arrive in the 4th Kingdom. They decide to help the prince to retrieve his human form and they live the adventure of their lives in the nine kingdoms of the fairytale land."The 10th Kingdom" is a delightful fantasy in the magic land of the fairy tales. I have spent the last three days watching with my wife the three imported DVDs with 417 minutes running time and it was really an worthwhile time that we have spent. Despite being long, the story keeps the attention and is highly entertaining. The only weak point of the story is the relationship between the needy Virginia and the wicked Evil Queen that does not deserve the attitude of Virginia in the end. This is the type of film that is pleasant for adults and children. The Brazilian distributor Alpha Filmes released an edited edition with only one DVD of about 180 minutes running time. My vote is eight.Title (Brazil): "Império Perdido" ("Lost Empire")

This movie is one of the best epic fantasy film I've ever watched!! 'Stardust' started the epic fantasy hype for me and this movie spurred the momentum even more when I watched it the second time recently. The storyline is absolutely beautiful! Just like 'Prison Break', there are lots of twists and turns in the story and that keeps you at the edge of your seat from the beginning to the end. The 'hatred' and 'love' relationship between the characters is also complex and enjoyable to see. I don't understand why NBC won't pick up for a second season... I've first watched this in New Zealand actually 8 years ago but I still remember the views were really high during the airing week... The opening sequence of the movie must have been the most beautiful piece I have ever seen!! Great special effects and the idea is very original. The theme song is very touching and they couldn't have pick a better theme song. I definitely recommend you watch this if you can, you won't waste your time. If you enjoyed 'Stardust', then you'll definitely enjoy this one..!!! ^^

I adore this series. It's an original adaptation of the classic Grimm fairy tales, put in a modern, more dark perspective, and giving it a certain realistic depth by placing two no-nonsense New York citizens in a world full of magic. The series is not flawless, as sometimes the humor seems a bit cheesy, but the overall presentation is as enchanting as the events that occur. I just loved the role by John Larroquette, who plays an ex-successful businessman turned janitor, and has the same humor through subtle self-mockery as the likes of Bill Murray and Kevin Spacey. Scott Cohen shines as an over-the-top half-wolf, whose inner battle between two personalities is displayed in a comical yet convincing way. The cast also includes some famous faces such as Rutger Hauer and Robert Hardy, and is all in all convincing, mostly with characters that are easy to relate to. A lot of the series power is in the multitude of on-location filmed sites through which the journey takes the main characters. One episode contains some simply idyllic footage, with the gorgeous Austrian mountains backed by a beautiful score of classical music. The series must be watched with an open mind however, expect no revolutionary filming techniques or award-winning performances, but be prepared for an extremely enjoying, consistent series that deserves a second watch, and is as magical as its subject matter.
