rpd-18898 Loved this series has filled a whole where Downton Abby left. Love the Drama, love the characters, and can not wait for season 2. Can not wait to see where the story will end up next. Hopefully the show will cover the parts of the war that all the characters talk about. The Media that has covered this show has not done this show justice and PBS, BBC, and other partners should only look at what the fans say and not what the media has to say.
a_marciniak I started watching this because I saw a promo for it and thought it was beautifully shot. I've only just finished the first episode, but these are my thoughts. The show is, assuredly, beautifully shot. The characters, as written, are definitely archetypes that we've all seen before; it is true. Their personifications by the cast are nonetheless quite compelling, save for Billy who needs to just disappear. Watching him is like taking the orange zest side of a cheese grater against your skin. Awful. Or perhaps that's the point? To show how annoying, presumptuous, and unlearned we Americans are in the City of Lights? TDB...My chief complaint, aside from the fact that the entire Sabine staff seems completely fluent in English as if it were their first language, is that the ruling family of this couture house are played by British actors, and their delivery is quintessentially British. Yes, they nod to their supposed Frenchness by saying "maman" instead of "mum", but their classic British cold calculated restraint on display is a different animal than the typical French sangfroid. This cultural disconnect between the British actors trying (not trying) to act French is a bit jarring. Compare these three to how Nina and her mother are played to truly see the difference. Otherwise, i'm intrigued and will ride out the season. Beautiful costumes.
graphicusart I found this wonderful post-WW2 French drama one of the best shows I've discovered this year. The storyline, costuming & French ambiance were all perfectly rendered. There was much in the way of secretive family intrigue and definitely ended in a cliffhanger. By the end of the final episode, I was left wanting more, so I'm hoping there's another season! I can't recommend this wonderful, exciting show highly enough ~
lizzyfl345 I can not stop talking about the series - it's beautifully produced with a great cast, interesting characters and I love the gorgeous post war Paris setting. The fashion is stunning as are the story lines. The family drama is intense, pitting family against family. Each character is faced with moral dilemmas and are haunted by their past mistakes, destructive flaws and dark secrets,... A definite recipe for a gripping drama. will definitely be looking forward to watching season 2.
