Reviews

trinny20 This has everything a good exorcist tv series should have. Not endless jump scares, but more intense, well drawn out episodes with great nerve wracking scenes! This was absolutely brilliant! First season down, on to season two!
travinorbit-72734 It's both hilarious and disheartening to read some of the other reviews for The Exorcist series on here. If you're a narrow-minded christian (and I'm not saying ALL christians are narrow-minded) who can't handle seeing two men kiss, perhaps you shouldn't be watching horror shows depicting demonic possession and corruption within organised religion? Talk about cherry-picking for what you can and cannot accept! I thought you lot were supposed to steer clear of the occult? One reviewer says they don't have a problem with "gays" but they're sick of the gay agenda. Give me a break! There is very little depiction of queer people in mainstream TV, it's not pushing any agenda to show two men kissing. It's two PEOPLE kissing! And people complaining it doesn't fit...it's character development! Geez Louise! If you can't deal with that, turn off your TV and put your head back in the sand. It's 2018. The show itself is great, and pretty darn addictive. Unfortunately, it tends to go over the top on occasion, and I'm a little worried it's going to become another American Horror Story (trashy). But when it's reined it, it's genuinely creepy. It's the scenes that prioritise subtlety over special effects that make your skin crawl. Overall, it's well-acted, beautifully shot, and the script intriguing. I remain cautiously optimistic.
The Couchpotatoes Even after 44 years the first movie The Exorcist still remains good. It didn't age bad like some other movies from that time. Linda Blair was outstanding with her performance playing the possessed. So I was very excited to start watching the series since it scored even more on IMDb. Plus there are a lot of positive reviews. Everything to get me more than excited. But after watching the first season I am deeply disappointed. I could have known from the beginning it wasn't going to be that great as it is shown on FOX. There is just not enough foul language to make this good. The possessed should speak in tongues and the only or at least majority of things she should say are abominable disrespectful words. There should be a mother s...ing d...s in hell and so on. But it's on FOX so none of that. Instead you get a very bad impression of evil tongue. It was really bad. Add on that the sometimes very bad acting and you get a bad show like this. I don't know where people saw great acting. They must have seen another show than me. Alan Ruck is the worst. But you also have Torrey Hanson playing the French speaking Cardinal Guillot. The guy is everything but French. I can know since it is my primary language. Why the hell would you just not find a French actor to play that role? Even that is to much to ask. And you would think that the special effects, since we are in 2017, should be great or at least better than in 1973, but no it's just average. Like this series, below average. I am not going to waste my time on a second season as there are so many good shows on TV. This one is clearly not one of them, despise of what the ratings on IMDb says or the positive reviews.
joanassrodrigues I was drawn to The Exorcist by its publicity. The first season aired on FOX Portugal last August, and I didn't really know what to expect from it other than that it was set in modern day Chicago, had some pretty faces, and seemed to have some good scares.I was very pleasantly surprised, and by the end of episode 1, I knew I would be coming back for more. I thought season 1 was brilliant all around, better than most TV Shows on air, but season 2 takes the cake. (Don't worry, this is spoiler free). All characters are well-rounded and well-explored, even if they only appear briefly on screen. The twists and turns and knots of the story lines are fascinating, and will take you on an exciting, emotional ride. The relationship between the two main characters really make this show breathe and live, and the chemistry is quite clear. Casting nailed it. The cast is diverse, with representation from many fronts (from sexuality to race to creed), and everything from imagery to music is beautifully crafted. I highly recommended you watch this show, because it isn't cheap horror with sporadic jumpscares placed for shock value. Above the fact that it is a horror show featuring possessions, it is a story about people coming together to fight wrongness, about the dichotomy of light/dark, good/evil. It's about love, family and forgiveness and all the ways those can be found. I rated it 9/10 for now, because this show just keeps on getting better, and I can't wait to see their 10 delivered.
