Episode 12 - New Years Day Edition

The country's favourite New Year's tradition continues with another year-end special from Ron James. The comedian puts 2011 to bed as only he can, then looks ahead to 2012, sincerely hoping the Mayans were just having a bad day at the temple when they made their famous doomsday prediction. Of course it wouldn't be New Years without Aunt Vivien's annual message to the royal family, and her homespun advice to newlyweds Will and Kate is as cut and dry as Marks and Spencer shortbread; a usually quiet electronics store manager channels General Patton to rally his troops for the battle known as Boxing Day; guests of Canada's greatest detective Mordecai Moncton learn that attending one of his parties can be murder; a top military official is in the hot seat for accidentally shooting down a certain bearded, jolly, red-suited man on Christmas Eve; and Lil Ronnie is staging a covert operation of his own, up way past his bedtime trying to raid the snack table of Ma and Pa's New Year's party; and in a special musical number to close the show, a mall and chain weary Ron pays cranky tribute to the season with fellow survivors of the holiday madness

Reviews

Jodie Pieters That audience is not me but I'm not saying that this is a bad show or whatever. My dad watches Ron James do his stand up comedy routine on Just for Laughs or whatever stand up comedy shows it is that he does and enjoys him very much (I do not, to me it just seems like a little guy talking really fast and combining big words and concepts with a 'Newfie' accent to seem funny when he's not really saying much at all). My dad doesn't like this show The Ron James Show either I should point out but my point is that there definitely would be people who this show is made for. Some of the clips on this show are really bad. Little Ronny is painful to watch and so are most of the live skits they do. The stand up is the most bearable part and probably almost half the show is stand up but as I said that has a certain audience and it is not really me. I give it a 3.
frizniza I give this show 1 out of 10. It is yet another pathetic attempt by CBC to make comedy for geezers. I recognize Ron James from countless other TV shows and programs and specials over the years and I actually remember seeing him do stand up comedy specials on TV years ago that I actually enjoyed watching. The problem is his comedy never changed and now he's super old and annoying, telling jokes you know the punchlines to, and desperately waving his arms around while loudly talking at 6000 words per minute in an effort to trick us into laughing. That is just the bad stand up comedy bits and those are actually the least objectionable parts of the show. The skits are so terrible I can't even watch. The Little Ronny cartoons are terrible and unfunny and don't even have a point, it's like somebody smoked a pound of crack and then tried to make a cartoon. I'm sure it's funny to whoever made it, but why do I want to watch a cartoon kid with a creepy old man head sit at a kitchen table and occasionally swear for two minutes with no discernible jokes? This show just plain stinks. Another loser for CBC who can't seem to shake themselves of the habit of putting really old people on TV long after they were funny at all. I'm guessing whenever they finally get rid of this show they'll just bring back Air Farce. I pretty much give up on CBC.
Michelle The Ron James show is terrible, I'm not sure if it is still on the air but if it is they should cancel it right away. The jokes are terrible, his stand up comedy is the best thing on the show and even that is annoying with the way he waves his hands around and talks in a shrill voice using way too many words. All he does is use word play he doesn't have any real jokes. I don't know who actually likes this stupid show. The rest of the show is also all Ron James and all of it is terrible. I have to write more lines before they will let me submit this review so I will just say again I guess how much I think this show totally stinks up my TV.
Steve Adams This show is just very bad. The sketches are really lame including scenes where Ron James (who is in real life about sixty years old or so) plays a little kid and another where he voices characters who are supposed to be his family in animated short sketches. I guess we are supposed to just laugh because an old man is pretending to be a kid? I don't know what they are thinking but it fails miserably this is some of the worst comedy I have seen in a while on Canadian TV. There is also a lot of stand-up comedy on the show where Ron James tells jokes, this is much better than the rest of the show (the sketches etc) but it's still only for real fans of Ron James, personally I find his comedy might work for older people like my parents but he's pretty whiny and his comedy is a bit too basic for me.
