Reviews

CinematicSyndrome This was my first anime which has monsters/gore. So its fair to say that with little to no other show to compare it with at the time, it stood out strong with its story, characters and the themes it carries. But unfortunately by the time i'm writing this review i have started watching Parasite: The Maxim which has very similar theme and implements it 10x better. By no means it is a bad show its in fact a very good, well made with amazing character study towards self discovery in finding the right place for yourself in the derailed world and as to what it is to be human. But these themes are explored much better in the end than throughout. It does touches them but are fully exploited in the end because of which to me it gave the most satisfying end (well not a complete end but definitely to the theme it was carrying throughout). Likable characters but they could have given them much better story. Had a potential to be an amazing show but still is a very good one. One thing which is undeniably perfect is its soundtrack.Verdict: Definitely worth checking out.
daniwong Tokyo Ghoul is a very unique series. Tokyo Ghoul is set in a world where ghouls, creatures that feed on human flesh. A shy college student named Kaneki is going on a date with a girl named Rize, but after her revealing that she is a ghoul, there was no going back. After leaving Kaneki to the brink of death, she was hit by some metal bars dropped from a building. After that Rize's organs have been transplanted into Rize, making him a One-Eyed Ghoul. Now, Kaneki must survive as a ghoul by using his powers, and to further polish them. It has a lot of character development, ad a unique story. It had a pretty good art direction, but I think that the series went a bit downhill with the premiere of season 2. Studio Pierrot did a fairly good good job on adapting Tokyo Ghoul, but I have to point out a few things. In season 1, they switched the Gourmet Arc and the Dove's Emergence Arc (I guess Pierrot wanted Ryouko to live for a little while). They left out important plot details (like how Kaneki learned the technique to easily break an arm=, and don't get me started with season 2! Season 2 left aside Touka (this also includes Kaneki on the first episodes. Please take in mind that he is the protagonist) leaving her with little screen time, and it focused a bit too much on CCG. It also focused on a story arc that differed from the other half of the manga.Leaving all of that aside I would say that this anime is worth watching, but make sure you read the manga first. Maybe if Studio Pierrot, stayed faithful a bit more to the manga, it could have gotten higher ratings (and would have stopped the request for Madhouse to reboot Tokyo Ghoul). Nevertheless, Tokyo Ghoul is one of the most successful horror series. With Tokyo Ghoul :re (the manga sequel of Tokyo Ghoul), they both have reached 22 million copies in circulation, and some people say it levels up to Death Note.
Brian Tkatch It's an okay anime, with a lot of gore. Main character is super powerful but has inner dilemmas (Gohan Moments) which restrict him from fighting. Character backgrounds are revealed slowly to keep you interested. Small story arcs extend the anime. It is mainly about fighting, with some time spent for people to get along. Basically, each character is a jerk to the main character, fighting or insulting him. For some reason the character has to take sides with him. They then become uneasy friends. Rinse, wash, repeat.Once a supporting character has been dealt with, that character's story only comes up when convenient. Some main "bad guys" get a back story at some point to explain that how they are really good guys who were abused, etc. (It's not really their fault, and the like.) Those stories are mildly interesting for the few minutes they last. Overall, the story writing is mediocre. If you like Gohan, Naruto, etc, with bad guys picking fights, you might like this show. If you don't, this show is painful.
seraphin01 Well I don't get much of the reviews on this anime here..I just finished watching both season.. while season 1 would have been more than enough with some study over the dominant specie and such.. nothing really original, seen that theme for instance in Chronicle (the movie).. but yeah why not? Graphic wise it's not bad, some will like, some like me will find it pretty generic, not the issue at hand Problem comes from the so called character development that so many here seem to praise.. it's typical from Japanese stories, the wuss that turns all badass overpowered for god knows what reason in matter of hours or days, same goes for the bad ass girl turning into a cry baby if to some it sounds like character development, to me it looks like a convenient switch to serve a so called plot purpose which at the end of season 2 still concern me...As usual in anime we get those "heroic" moments which look SO out of style, so unrealistic to the limit that it just kicks your attention out of it and just wish the episode will end up faster to get over it.Also we have those "mysterious" things that are supposed to make you go wooah, so COOL and stuff.. well it doesn't, I might grow too old for those things, cool poses, cool this cool that.. is NOT cool So while the first episodes of first season might look like some dark anime it's imply ISN'T, it's just the polish on a bland anime with random super power, some are totally useless gun fodder and some completely OP.. you expect that in anime like one piece or games like dynasty warriors, not in an anime that's supposed to be adult like and serious Soooo.. well am done with season 2, am not gonna bother checking if there is a third coming though there probably will be, since they added some "mysterious random white haired guy" at the end, some "shocking revelation totally not predictable" and so on..if you want dark and gore go for Attack on Titans, if you want "dark" without the gore go for Full metal alchemist, if you need more gore go for terraformars, but I strongly advice you to stay away from this random anime that is tokyo ghoul
