joannpl Ófærð is an amazing, dark, slow-burning drama, where you feel the tension building from the very first moment. Ólafur Darri Ólafsson depicted a single-father (for the time-being), living with his parents-in-law, working as the chief of police with so much details and such psychological depth that it leaves the watcher in awe. He is strong but easily-hurt, he is tormented by his love to his wife and still naivelly believes that maybe, just maybe everything will be fine. The story - wow, so many paths that it takes us on, such tangled connections between closed-knit society of a small community. The scenery - breath-taking; I'm from Poland so we do have some strong winters, but the creepy atmosphere of being completelly cut-off by the snow fall is something I don't know :) And it worked for me - I was binge-watching the series with 38 degrees Celsius outside and I felt frozen to the bone :) It was a combination of the story and scenery that made the film so thrilling. Overall - great acting, good story and somewhat surprising ending.
Sankari_Suomi Ófærð is the latest hit series from controversial Icelandic film production company RVK Studios. Created by the secretive and little known director Baltasar Kormákur, it weaves a story of lust, love, hate, murder, and lies in the remote town of Seyðisfjörður (population 665).Nestled at the innermost point of a local fjord, Seyðisfjörður has a robust economy founded on the traditional Icelandic industries of fishing and bankruptcy. Like all Nordic peoples, Icelanders are nudists, although this does not feature strongly in the narrative. If you're familiar with Nordic noir you'll have a good idea of what to expect, except this time it's in Icelandic, Danish, and English.Icelandic is one of those rare and weird languages that don't sound like the way they're translated. The Germans have described it as the most lyrical of the Nordic languages, while the Danes are fond of saying that it resembles the noise you'd get if a Swede strangled a Norwegian with the entrails of a Finn. Personally I think Icelandic sounds like someone gargling with a spork. The series has English subtitles, and although my Icelandic is a bit rusty, I can tell they are reasonably accurate. As the story unfolds, it quickly becomes apparent that the cast consists of pretty much the entire Icelandic population, so the recaps at the start of each episode are essential for keeping track of what's happening. The characters are well developed, and their simple names are easily pronounced. Rögnvaldur, Lanhelgisgæslukona, Lanhelgisgæslumaður, and Rannsóknarlögregla will doubtless become household favourites. If you're a fan of Kristinn Kristjánsson and Baldur T. Hreinsson, you'll be delighted to see they've secured strong roles in this passionate murder-mystery drama. Also keep an eye out for Ólafur Björn Gunnarsson, Þorgeir Guðmundsson, Sigurður Skúlason, Erling Jóhannesson, Óli Jón Gunnarsson, Ólafía Hrönn Jónsdóttir, Rán Ísold Eysteinsdóttir, Elva María Birgisdóttir, Katla M. Þorgeirsdóttir, and Lilja Nótt Þórarinsdóttir.I rate Ófærð at 29.97 on the Haglee Scale, which works out as a stunning 9/10 on IMDb.
Paul Couillard I can hardly find words to describe this beautifully-crafted and astringent crime drama. The Icelandic backdrop is by turns vast and claustrophobic; the actors conveying few words but infinite emotion; the plot complex but believable.Ólafur Darri Ólafsson is a Andiri, the police chief, a dark planet, moving through the characters and narrative; a weighty, flawed, but compassionate human with a resolute moral core. Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir is his assistant and grows in depth and importance as the story unfolds.Think Twin Peaks crossed with Fargo. Best watched in bed with flannel pajamas!
alsupremo First episode starts with a motor cycle in daylight. 2 occupants enter a building in daylight and by the time they reach the top of the stairs it's night outside. A torso is found and it is immediately assumed it came from the Danish ferry that hadn't even passed the fishing boat that caught it, a physical impossibility. Then the Police Chief holds the ferry for searching and goes off to pick up his kids to take them home leaving the ferry with all the people and vehicles on board. For a series of this magnitude coming from a Country with only 300,000 people it is really good but who ever advised on Policing and forensic work issues didn't do a good job. Despite these errors I'm pushing thru to see all episodes as it is such a relief from most of the terrible US series. Iceland is always on my list after seeing a previous crime series and the Iceland football team that outperformed in the recent European Cup.
