valerie-hoganfamily-fan The Peacekeepers/Warriors is an excellent work of art and real life... Its brilliant in its cinematography and characterization & poignant and intense in its portrayal of a real life situation which showed humanity's brutal face in the advent of the Civil War in Bosnia... What makes this story so depressing yet so worthy of being watched is its authenticity in portraying events that happened only some years back right in front of our eyes. It leaves you frustrated and guilty at not being able to help those who were most in need of it. The movie is a historical document and in its silent way, invokes humanity, compassion and the dire need for kindness in everyone's heart... It reminded me of Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" and the haunting words "horror, horror!!!" at seeing the dark side of humanity. Yet the only saving grace was that the UN soldiers who were reduced to the role of nothing but zombies had hearts and souls and that became their tragedy. The Warriors/ Peacekeepers is an effort to jolt the conscience of the world and to rise them up from their silly, petty concerns and be bold enough to stay good in the midst of horror and darkness... Ioan Gruffudd is brilliant as always... And Mathew Macfaydan brings heart to this grim story of love and lost humanity. I wish more and more people get to watch this. Highly Recommended!
rococod-208-935697 Very real and well acted drama. I have never fully understood Bosnian war and UN peacekeepers role until I watched this movie. It really shows how hopeless and inhumane were those times. It is movie to remember for me. I give it a 10 out of 10 since acting is excellent and scenes are real and it has very strong message as an anti war movie. I am very glad I watched this excellent movie. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to learn more about what war is like, what "ethnic cleansing" is like or what went on just 15 years ago in very central part of Europe. Shocking what humans can do to each other, hope that Bosnian country never experience any war again.
erika_takacs I've seen this movie several times, and in my opinion it is one of the most important movie-opuses of our times. Directing, acting, camera-work: all these pieces create an absolutely excellent work. Yes, the Serbs should face what they have done there, and this movie doesn't give a fawning account of them. But... and this but is an aching absence in the movie factory of the world: what about the account of the English doing the same with much more people all around the world? In India, in China, in Africa, in Australia etc. (these are just the biggest places), not to forget about their deeds in Iraq, Afghanistan etc? When will they face their own sins in such a movie done with the same very talented and geniously acting young actors? The sooner the better. Because I think it is unjust to ill-use such a one-sided account for the world and then to act the part of the honest justiciary. Of course this is not an absolution of Serbs, as they committed real guilts there indeed. For example with my own countrymen!!! (as I am Hungarian). But I felt I have to tell this. There is a poem about all of this situation: "To arrange our common businesses, it is our work: and it is hard, indeed." We should feel not these "Iam the good,(as I am from Western Europe) and you are the bad (as you are from Eastern Europe)" feelings, but to face our common past, and create a peaceful present and future.
Ray Massart This two-part series which was shown on TV is a description of how a majority of British UN soldiers experienced the war in former Yougoslavia.Their task was mainly a humanitarian mission based on a policy of non-intervention.This policy may have worked in the minds of well-intentioned theoreticians but was impossible to execute in the real environment of war-torn Bosnia. These soldiers were subjected to constant stress resulting from their orders not to intervene, the hostility they experienced as foreign intruders, the language barriers and the bestiality they encountered without being able to offer any significant help. The traumas that these men experienced definitely had a devastating and lasting effect on their further lives "Warriors" draws the viewer into the ongoing drama in such a convincing way that one fully grasps the frustration these soldiers must have experienced. Excellent production: a top-class cinematographic document performed by outstanding actors.
