floyd beck The movie has nothing to do with sci-fi. It is a novel about a narcissistic lover who has sex, then has more sex, then has even more sex. There are numerous scenes of him in bed with classy prostitutes. Many of those scenes come with sexual moans and other sound effects. The movie also moves very slowly. The so-called "androids" are totally stupid and only defined by a wireless cell phone ear piece that many people wear today in 2014. What is especially awful about the movie is that it starts with a sci-fi feeling and then shortly thereafter becomes a story about a man fulfilling his sexual desires and about women who feel sexual frustration, spite, and live in fantasies. A very stupid movie that will take away 127 minutes of your life.
kctvt1 2046 is directed by Wong Kar-wai from Hong Kong in 2001. This film is a simple content and complex emotional love story.Different from the other Wong Kar-wai's film, 2046 trying to through the whole story instead of some plots or emotions to build up a whole. The cores are the tangle and give up of Chow Mo-Wan and five women in his life. The love which these attempt to do the perfect but have not completed reflects Wang Kar-wai's characters: love, memory, rejection, communications is impossible and so on. On this point, the figures of the 2046 continue the previous work of Wong Kar-wai's full personality. At the same time, the story is basically valid in the logic. At that, as the time sequence, except Chow Mo-Wan, the other characters appeared in the Wong Kar-Wai's film reached the end respectively.It can be said, all of the Wong Kar-wai's film are about love. In this case, it destroys film's structure and rhythm to an extent. Zhou muyun turns his target from one to another when most forces still in the air.Zhou muyun can't step forward because of his memory about a woman named Su lizhen. Memory became the main actor in Zhou muyun's love. After Wu save his secrets, Zhou muyun came across another Su lizhen. Their momentary love ended with leave of Zhou muyun. When they said goodbye, Zhou said: You could find me again if allow yourself go. Two years later, Zhou muyun understand that exist words was said to himself when he found this woman involve in his memory. At the different or same time, he just regards this Su lizhen as the first one. Same as Lulu, because of her memory and find succedaneum again and again. Obviously, these people didn't live in the reality but in the past and their dream. So, Zhou muyun use his imaginary novel 2047 to weave a dream: somewhere called 2046, almost wonderful memories full of it.Some main plots happened in an restaurant where the place was closed, it seemed that only Muyun Zhou and a female customer stayed next door called 2046. All the other staffs were typical Shanghaineses. This surrounding was brought by dark colors, it showed the wall old which looked like a moldy memories. Even more that opera, dress, suit, shiny hair wax, and banquet were the essential background and must-have stuffs, since they were busy on everything but some serious matters. Old Shanghai's decadence and glossy surface were reborn in 60s of last century, Hong Kong. What we seen in the film of 2046 neither Old Shanghai nor Hong Kong, but the dream of Wong Kar-wai. Film photography, art and landscape setting were perfectly showing noisy but lonely and warm and sentimental. This atmosphere expressed by Wong Kar-wai reflected that he had enriched old knowledge of traditional culture and outstanding ability to control the film.The film 2046 was begging from a voice over of Mucun, it said people lived in yesterday would find a hole of tree and tell it themselves' secrets. In Wong Kar-wai's film, the reason why the love could not come true was that they could not communicate with each other besides the memories they could not give up. Muyun Zhou chose a hole of tree to tell secrets, and in the future, Mucun said the same words over and over again as Muyun Zhou, however, this time Mucun could not gain any response because he said to a female Robert. This had become a fate that could not escape, and that was the way the fate was. Wong Kar-wai strongly went after the number and the time in this film. "2046" looked like a symbol through the whole story, it looked like a mystery, it was a room number next the room where Muyun Zhou stayed, it was one of the recall of episode between Mucun and Lizhen Su, it was a number when he hunted for LULU, it also was a place where happened in his fiction and a never-ending train. There were showed a few lines sentences in twice times: one hour, ten hours, one hundred hours, and one thousand hours. These digitals rigidly reflected the change of time. The time to change laughed at the false promise.
johnnymonsarrat The film "2064" starts with a science fiction premise, but after a few minutes leaps into a 1960s drama about love. That threw me for a loop and by the end of the film I was praying for it to end. In this way it was similar (but worse than) A Beautiful Mind, which starts as a thriller and becomes a drama in a "ha ha fooled you" move mid-way through.Without giving away anything important, I feel I can say that the protagonist falls in love with a number of women, mistreats them, with predictable results, all while pining about how lonely he is. I lost count of how many times characters cried in the film after 20.I suppose 2064 could be a character study of an anti-hero who's stuck in a rut. But for me, I like to identify with the protagonist and ideally, want him or her to do something, have a change. Perhaps if the film had stayed focused on one love interest, it might have made some sense. The idea of fiction is to wrap up real life, which is messy, into a neat package that can be comprehended and serves some emotional purpose, even if it's tragedy.I didn't get even that sense from 2064. The film meandered. At one point the protagonist, a Chinese man, transforms into a Japanese man, played by a different actor, and dates a robot. Actually, more than one robot. All of them cry.I suppose 2064 is either an "art" film, which can be loved for its cinematography and score, despite its failings in entertainment, or it's just no good from start to finish. I can't tell, because I wasn't a film major in college. In fact, most people aren't film majors in college.I do enjoy intelligent dramas, such as Atonement, for example, but I was both confused and bored to pieces by this film. I'm forced to give "2064" a 4 out of 10, the lowest rating I'll give a film that is professionally made (not an amateur production or a surrealist nightmare). Avoid this film if you're not an art film buff, and maybe even if you are.
GlennInWinnipeg The theme is about how a sad romantic past (a lost true love) can leave you emotionally "out of sync" unless you understand that by trying to recapture your past feelings, you are cutting off your ability to fall in love because your emotional anchor is looking backward. You see, the past is fixed, so it cannot change -- you can rely on the past, but the future because it is not establish fact yet, makes one feel powerless to affect the outcomes. So people just "give up" because there are too many variables that would need to come together to make that "perfect feeling of love" to happen again.2046 is a summation of two other movies this Director made .. "In the Mood for Love", primarily; but also "Days of Being Wild".In 2046; there are several stories, but the one involving Miss Wang and her Japanese boyfriend, is essentially a simpler version of the story the main character went through in "In the Mood for Love".Since the writers failed romance, we open with him saying how has become a womanizer and does not need a serious relationship - in fact he has changed a lot since "in the mood for love" where he was innocent and loving. Here the women love him, but he gives them "his time" in repayment. But he wants nothing beyond a surface fun friendship. Essentially, he has given up on falling in love because it is out of his control. We see the story of the special women in his life .. and all the people end up in the novel eventually - Lulu jealous boyfriend, Miss Wang, the Hotel owner (Miss Wang's dad) become the Train Captain of 2046 for instance.The stories weave around each other. The one that shows us how to escape 2046 is that of the sad story of Miss Wang and her Japanese boyfriend. Miss Wang is forbidden to see her boyfriend because he is Japanese, and the father would disown her if she saw him. She begins to talk to herself - repeating over and over the words she wished she could have said - I will come with you. Her story takes a break as she is eventually hospitalized; returning later in the story, a shell of her former self. The writer has been observing her relationship and is touched by her perseverance and sacrifice --she knows her situation is hopeless but she seems unable to give up. He eventually surprises us by helping her out by having the boyfriend's letters sent to him, and slipping them to her privately so her father is not mad. She eventually helps him write for the summer, and he falls in love with her - but she longs for her boyfriend. He then gives her a gift by writing a new novel called 2047 where he wants to show her how he sees her relationship with her Japanese boyfriend. He says that the more he wrote about the Japanese boyfriend, the more he felt he was really writing about himself.FROM 2046: "I once fell in love with someone. After a while she was gone. I couldn't stop wondering if she loved me or not. I went to 2046 hoping to find her there. But I never found her."We go to a dinner scene with Bai, which seems to serve no purpose, but shows us how she went looking for the writer the previous Christmas, and he was not there .. similar to 2046 quote above.He has figured out the emotional damage people get -- "Our cabin attendants are superbly designed... But there's only one problem: when they've served on so many long journeys, fatigue begins to set it. For example, they might want to laugh, but the smile would be slow to come. They might want to cry, but the tear wouldn't well up till the next day... "In the 2047 the Japanese character TAK concludes - "So at last, I got it. It's entirely beyond my control. The only thing left for me... was to give up." The writer then has dinner with Miss Wang - he asks her if she has heard from her boyfriend. She says she stopped because the situation was impossible because of her fathers feelings. The writer concludes - it is only impossible if you give up (take "no" for an answer), and offers to take her to call him. The expression he has as he looks in through the window is touching -- as she makes her call - he says he felt like Santa that year.Mr Wang meets up with the writer to say that he is off to Japan for his daughter's wedding. The father says he has learned that all he wants is for his daughter to be happy. So the impossible has happened. Mr Wang adds .. "my daughter loved 2047; but wishes you would change the ending as its too sad." Which begs the question - can our main character get a happy ending himself.He meets Bai again for dinner, she hands him the $10 bills he had given her, and he pays for dinner without realizing."He didn't turn back. It's AS IF HE BOARDED A VERY LONG TRAIN headed for a drowsy future through the unfathomable night"In short, he knew he was stuck in 2046 forever because he had given up. However, he was able prevent the couple from giving up and they got out of 2046.The only theme I've not touched upon is the "single gloved hand" .. simply put it shows a past undisclosed but visible to everyone.
