AN ABSOLUTE WASTE OF MY I HOUR AND 30 MINUTES.........................................................................................................

I was excited to watch the Best Foreign Film Oscar winner of this year. Being in the company of such transcendental movies in past winners, I was sure that "A Fantastic Woman" was going to be up to the challenge. What a disappointment it has been to watch this movie.
This type of story has been told successfully in so many other movies in the past, that I don´t really understand why this particular one was even nominated for an Oscar; what a rip off for the other nominees. Other than the character being a transgender woman, this movie does not portray anything new that a lover who is rejected by her partner's family has experienced in so many past stories. The only thing clear in the movie is that Chile is a country living in the 12th century.
The pace of the storytelling is slow, the script is at times completely unbelievable, and the story keeps trying to surprise us but at the end nothing important happens; every reaction is completely predictable. The last scene is the best the movie has to offer, where the main character shows that there is life after death.
I want my time back. I do not recommend this movie unless you belong to the transgender community.

A Fantastic Woman (Spanish: Una mujer fantástica) (2017)
Director: Sebastián Lelio
Watched: May 2018
Rating: 7/10 {Clue: As an opera singer, Marina shows how this can be a source of healing and empowerment} Marina discovers her inner fantastic as she fights to preserve the memory of her love- against the wishes of his transphobic family members, Unfortunately hinges a little too much on transgender victimhood rather than character development, Shows the difficult truth of hate crimes without apologies or unnecessary melodrama, Impressive performance from Daniela Vega- a real-life transexual, with no lack of close-ups on her multifaceted expressions. Cinematography choices, supernatural sightings, dream sequences, and even a fantasy dance number combine for a unique magical realism tone. Acrostic is a form of poetry where the first letters in each line, paragraph, or word are also used to spell a name, phrase, or word. The word "acrostic" comes from the Greek words "akros" (outermost) and "stichos" (line of verse). Read the appropriate letters in the poem vertically to reveal the extra message, called the "acrostich"!

Una Mujer Fantástica (2017) is a Chilean movie that was co-written and directed by Sebastián Lelio.Daniela Vega--herself a transgender woman--plays Marina, a transgender woman living with a man she loves. When he dies unexpectedly, her world explodes. She is hated by his family, and is suspected by the police of having caused his death. Much of their scorn and suspicion arises from the fact that she is transgendered. If she were cisgendered, things might have been very different. Now she is alone with no house, no car, and almost no income. The plot is based on how Marina copes with this crisis in her life. Lelio is a brilliant director, and Vega is a brilliant actress. That combination results in a brilliant movie. The film is definitely worth seeking out. Because of the Academy Award win, it's still be playing in theaters in March, 2018, when I'm submitting this review. If it's gone from theaters by the time you read this, watch it on the small screen. I highly recommend it!
