Pheeke Wow this is a bad one! I haven't seen too many of David O. Russells movies but the ones I've seen I liked, so I was surprised at how bad this movie was.I know finding a movie funny or not is a very personal thing. Everyone has a different sense of humour, we don't all laugh at the same things. So all I can say is that I personally didn't laugh a single time during this film. The acting was also off. It was as if the characters had to be kooky and weird in a funny way, but it looked as if the acting was kooky and weird. The characters where neither lovable, understandable or interesting. The whole movie was unintentionally weird and strange, not funny or interesting. It left a bad taste in my mouth.
shadowmailboxer Deformed dick and prolapsed anus aside (yes, those are the "medical conditions" that make the characters rally for health-care), this movie can only be useful as a bad example for film-school.An impressive benchmark how a movie filled with a great cast AND led by a good director can turn out REALLY bad. Even the premise is relatively original. The certainly intentional overacting makes everyone a caricature but unfortunately reaps no laughs at all. None. The political satire part squibbed because the movie is so far over the top that it can't be taken seriously. Politics serve just as setting not the focus of a persiflage. If you want to see how director David O. Russel does a better job with about the same budget, watch "I Heart Huckabees", which I enjoyed quite a bit.
leonblackwood Review: What a total load of rubbish! I was expecting to have a couple of giggles throughout the movie because the cast was quite impressive but it's REALLY badly written and all of the actors just end up making fools out of themselves. It's about a waitress (Jessica Biel) who gets a nail stuck in her head after a random accident in a restaurant, while her boyfriend is proposing to her. When she goes to the hospital with her boyfriend, she finds out that she can't get the nail removed because she hasn't got medical insurance so she goes Washington DC to get help from a slightly dumb congressman to try and get help with her case. Because the nail is still in her head, she keeps on having split personalities but she gets help from her local vicar and his handy sidekick who stay by her side through her weird journey. The jokes were ridiculous and the music and weird storyline made this movie hard to watch. I'm really surprised that the cast agreed to do this film because it must have looked silly on paper. With that aside, the cast did make the most out of a badly written script and there chemistry seemed like they were having fun whilst making the movie but it wasn't enough to make it watchable. At the end of the day, it's really a bad day at the office for the experienced cast and I'm sure they will put this bad experience behind them. Terrible!Round-Up: This has to really go down as a massive lost for director David O. Russell who brought you top movies like Three Kings, which was brilliant, I Heart Huckabees, which I also enjoyed, The Fighter, also a great film, American Hustle, brilliant and Silver Linings Playbook which had some great performances from Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. With those movies behind him, everyone must have been expecting something big from this film, especially after seeing the cast list but it really is awful and I'm not surprised that the critics hated it. He's teamed up with DeNiro, Cooper and Lawrence again in his biopic Joy, which is due out anytime soon, so I'm sure that he will be getting back into the spotlight with that movie. Anyway, Gyllenhaal has been in the press a lot lately because of his physic and great performance in Southpaw so this movie was a weird choice after great movies like End Of Watch and the deep Nightcrawler. Maybe it was the established director which drew him to the project! Jessica Biel and Catherine Keener put it some average performance and I actually didn't mind Tracy Morgan in this film but it's really the script that let the movie down. The concept was really far fetched and the movie just became annoying after a while but the morals about the medical insurance weren't too bad.Budget: $26million Worldwide Gross: $4,500 (Awful!)I recommend this movie to people who are into their romantic comedies about a lady whose fighting to get a nail taken out of her head because she hasn't got medical insurance. 2/10
Tony Heck "You can't fix a brain with crazy ideas." Alice (Biel) has everything she wants in life. A job she loves and is good at, a loving family and a boyfriend who has just asked her to marry him. Right after the proposal a freak accident happens and she is shot in the head with a nail. With her life falling apart around her she sees Congressman Birdwell (Gyllenhaal) on the TV and thinks he is the answer to her problems. This movie is pretty much exactly what you would expect it to be. Funny in parts, pretty predictable, little generic but at the same time not a terrible movie. Every once in a while it's nice to just put a movie on without having to think about it and just enjoy yourself. This is that type of movie. There really isn't too much else to say about this one. I liked it enough, but wouldn't watch it again and nothing to rush and see, but I have seen worse. Overall, a generic, predictable movie that is a decent watch. A decent date movie. I give this a B-.
