Hitchcoc I really like Micael Curtis movies. This one stars some of filmdom's heavyweights. Mainly, James Cagney and Pat O'Brien, with Humphrey Bogart thrown in. The two are childhood friends, growing up in a tough part of the city. Cagney becomes a gangster, going over to the bad side while O'Brien becomes a priest, also going over to the bad side (just kidding). We also have the Dead End Kids who later became the Bowery Boys. Of course, at some point, the twain shall meet because of their chosen lives. As different as their lives are, they are true to themselves and there is a real love between them. Bogart plays a lawyer in the early part of his career as well. O'Brien does what he can to make things turn out for Rocky (Cagney), but the die is cast and at some point there will be a lot to pay for. This is a really good crime movie which will make you cry. Nice work.
Kirpianuscus a religious film. for the theme and the touching end. one of the memorable roles of James Cagney. precise social and political portrait. short, one of films who remains a significant experience for its viewer. because it reminds small ordinary truths in the right manner. because it preserves the aura of a period from history of cinema. because its simplicity is convincing and touching. for the great performances who, at the first sigh, are only reflection of the each actor to perform the specific role. but this is a virtue in this case and the key of the special beauty of film. the savage scene of the basketball game is one of the most impressive. like the manner to use the money by the boys. "Angels with Dirty Faces" is , in obvious manner, a classic. but this is only a label. because its force is to reflect, in great and almost unique style a state of soul.
SnoopyStyle Rocky Sullivan (James Cagney) and Jerry Connolly (Pat O'Brien) are childhood friends. In 1920, the two boys are chased by the police. Jerry managed to escape but Rocky is detained leading to a life of crime. Jerry becomes a priest and Rocky becomes a notorious gangster. James Frazier (Humphrey Bogart) is Rocky's corrupt lawyer. After getting out of prison, Rocky moves into a boarding house run by former classmate Laury Martin (Ann Sheridan). He takes an interest in a crew of petty criminals, The 'Dead End' Kids. The kids see him as their hero while Jerry tries to reform the boys. Rocky wants his share from Frazier and Frazier is willing to kill Rocky to keep it.The 'Dead End' Kids was a concept back in the day and this may be the best movie with this idea. In this one, they try to out-Cagney Cagney, but there is only one. He does his usual act plus much, much, more. It's a nice pairing with O'Brien and Bogie is a heavy. It's a classic crime melodrama of the highest quality.
Richie-67-485852 When I was that age, growing up in Brooklyn, it must have been tough on the people around me. Why? Because we were always looking for something to do, anything to do and trouble is the easy thing to get going anywhere. That's what these guys portray so well and Cagney sets the pace. Here we see a group of kids with no guidance and poor leadership that if someone doesn't intervene, they are all going to turn out like Rocky in the movie. Who better then a priest to try to get them to stop and consider what they are doing and why? The perfect balance takes hold. Good and evil go at it with evil looking, sounding and feeling better but ending on a bad note. Or, you can do good which will lead you toward the life intended. If anyone can keep themselves from bawling at the end, I'll ask you why? Give in and let the lesson of the movie have its way with you. A good lesson it is too because someone dies to make the point. Sound familiar? Hats off to every involved with this picture. Enjoy the scenes of life way back when, the way they talked and what was popular for music, cars and dress. Definitely a move to eat while watching, tasty drink and snack too. Oh, and have something to wipe that dirty face of yours, the one that cries in the end.
