willrasmussen-617-992319 I can't find a reason why to not dislike this film. The acting and story plot are all brilliant. This is the type of movie that makes me have a better positive outlook on life and makes me feel fortunate of the family I was raised by. This movie does show the tough circumstances of being a foster kid as many foster parents can be abusive. With the urge of his psychiatrist, he seeks out to find his biological family. This is defiantly a feel good movie about the positive outlooks of life. It can help people feel better about themselves and make them feel more appreciated. Denzel Washington does a good job for his first time of directing a movie. Denzel Washington probably made the movie of what is now. Without Denzel in this movie, the movie might of not been as good. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone. Anyone who likes dramas should see it because for one, there can't be a reason to not like Denzel as he is one of the most talented actors to come to screen.
Hee Jae Yang The movie that I watched is Antwone Fisher, directed by Denzel Washington and written by Antwone Fisher. It is an autobiographical drama about Antwone Fisher. He is guided by a Navy psychiatrist, and confronts his past and connects with family he never knew existed. There was a huge array of things I noticed in the movie. The biggest of which was how it wasn't only white people that abused and exploited African Americans, it was also African Americans that exploited and abused people of their own race. For example, the foster parent of Antwone and the daughter of the foster parent treated Antwone horribly. I had always known how badly African Americans were treated, and I had always known how orphans were treated in many places, but I had never even thought about how much African American orphans were treated before and even now. Antwone Fisher was constantly threatened, beat up, and even sexually abused by his foster family. The frequency of how much the foster mother used the word 'nigger' really made me cringe each time I heard it. It was so bad that at one point, she didn't use the word 'nigger' in a sentence and it really surprised me. Even after 20 or so years when Antwone finally came back to get information about his parents, the first thing the foster mother said was a sentence including a truckload of the word 'nigger.'This move really helped my understanding of the era because seeing is always better than simply learning about it in a classroom. By seeing, I was able to see things through the point of view of a single individual, who seemed to have things going for him in the Navy. However, more and more problems with the past showed up and it taught me that even the most normal of people may have serious emotional, mental, or psychological problems. It also helped me truly think about the importance of having someone to talk to. I guess you could say that I am a fairly privileged student and young man, since I've never had to worry about the necessities of life and I've always had people I could trust and talk to. The idea of not having people around that I can talk to really scares me. Overall, I really enjoyed watching this film and understand why this movie has 17 awards and 18 nominations. I personally found this movie really touching and I really enjoyed watching the progress he made throughout the movie.
Nocgirl72 This is one of my all time favorites. Simple story about a complicated sailor (Derek Luke)prone to emotional outbursts. He starts seeing a naval psychologist (the fabulous Denzel Washington) who helps him sort through his demons, reflect on his past, and find the family he never knew. Raised in an abusive foster home, he is determined to make something of himself, and try to put the daunting past behind him. Along the way he gets a girlfriend who helps him and encourages him to find himself, and search for his roots. One of the coolest endings in a movie. I get teary-eyed every time.AWESOME movie!!!
jchiswell I was flicking through the TV channels and ended up on the Antwone Fisher story. for me as a white Australian woman, this really a movie that should be told over and over and over, till anyone who thinks it's fine to treat people different because of color will never treat them different again. it's a happy, sad, heart warming and joyful at the same time. the next time i flick to see whats on the telly, i really hope it;s a great movie like this one was. threw family's falling apart then years later getting together, it's worth all the tears on the way. it does not matter how are we get hit down threw life, as any color of race, we all survive and love the people that are there for us threw the tough times and there at the other end. my though is never let life pull you so down that you don't think you could ever get up again. as life is really way to short. so go and live life your going to die threw the night.
