kristasileniece In my opinion, it is brilliant movie about misunderstood and lost young girl. I haven't read the book, but after watching this I definitely will. The way the story is told is surprisingly clever, and I'm still intrigued what happened. You need to see it! I promise you will not regret it.
sanjin_9632 I don't like Britt Robertson at all. She's as interesting as a brick. If you look at the list of her movies (and series), you'll find next to nothing of any depth or quality. It's mostly melodramatic, shallow, formulaic crap. This little movie is undoubtedly an exception, which cannot be ruined even by her bland acting. The movie's full of little gems, unusual little sentences in conversations. It feels rather authentic than schematic. The supporting cast is pretty good, diverting from the fact that the main character's not all that special. It's more the situations the character gets into and the people that cross her path, inadvertently having an impact on her. I imagine the director and writer, Alison Burnett, used some of her own experiences for this. This being her directing debut, I think she did alright. She managed to use her inexperience as a director to her advantage, giving the film an amateur feel, which kind of added charm and authenticity to the mix. The ending might be confusing to say the least, definitely different, and different is always good in my book. It gives the viewer some space to interpret, imagine or even understand. 6.4/10
Mychaela Parmer This title has a lighthearted theme until about half way through. At that point the main character, Katie, reveals she had been sexually assaulted as a child. Then her father dies, she becomes pregnant, and does not know the father. One of her lovers is her boss, another a thirty-something, and the third is her cheating boyfriend. Aside from her emotional instability, she finds friendship with an equally unstable old classmate and a bookstore owner. Over the year of these events, she documents them on a popular blog. She receives hate from readers but perseveres through it. Her mom, step-dad, step-mother, and friends help her through the tough times. One of the most important themes in this film is sexual assault. Katie had to endure the assault at a young age. The effects carry over into her adult life and is portrayed in her unhealthy relationships with older men and her abusive boyfriend. The theme also comes out when Katie's bookstore owner friend reveals to her that he was convicted of sexual assault with a prostitute. No matter how many bad things happen to Katie she moves past them until the end. Her real mother reveals the real family behind the blog. The author was Amy, and she went missing one night after she had received a phone call from a blocked number. After that call, she left her house and never returned. This is an important film because of it's intense themes. More and more young adults disappear everyday because of the stresses of adulthood. It is overwhelming but awareness of the issue needs to be brought up more often. Watching this film as a young adult, parent, or anyone who has had to persevere through a tough time, will be able to identify with Katie's character.
lunga Movie was 6 stars up until the last 5 minutes.*** This review may contain spoilers ***I don't do reviews that often, but I have to comment about the coming of age teen movie written by a middle aged man. The dichotomy of the writer's inner thoughts show in this movie. First, he's obviously a father and worried about the things his daughters could do to put themselves at risk, but it comes across as slut shaming.Second, as another reviewer stated, EVERYONE wants to have sex with you if you're a cute teen, and damn the consequences, which just comes across as pervy.I knew the movie was turning bad when so-and-so started his anti abortion sermon which reminded me of those Christian produced movies, but thankfully it ended.5 minutes later, BAM. We're jerked out of the storyline, confused. (Is this a fracking America's Most Wanted movie, and now I have to go Google Amy Grantham?), and given a very short explanation, then the credits. And that's it.
