Reviews

Eric Stevenson When I was looking at movie series on RottenTomatoes, I was looking to see what was the lowest rated one of them all that had at least three entries with reviews there. It's none other than this series. I have heard a lot about the book and have no desire to read it. This tells the story of a company that makes metal for railroads. Its employees start quitting and vanishing with no explanation other than people keep asking who John Galt is. That's really all this movie is. It is dreadfully boring. I think the only reason I didn't fall asleep is because the movie was a lot shorter than I thought.Having seen the second one first, I suppose this is slightly better, but it's still crap. This movie is just businessmen talking and talking. Mike Nelson couldn't possibly have seen these films because they are more boring than anything in "The Phantom Menace". At least that one had lightsabers in it! All we have in this movie is talk, talk, talk, and no action at all. I don't remember any of these characters' names. The acting is so bad that all of these characters are dull and uninteresting. If I wanted to watch something like this, I'd watch the news.I'm confused as to why this or the other films haven't been on Rifftrax or Channel Awesome and I think I know why. There's practically nothing to even mock here! Every scene is so monotonous it's hard to tell one from another. There's a big fire but even that's boring. I guess the best thing is probably how short it is. I remember Penn and Teller criticizing the Bible, but then they admitted they read books most people consider dumb like this film. As a long book, if this is supposed to be the Bible for atheists, I'll gladly believe in God. *1/2
kumarihpx When other reviewers write that many people rate this movie low because they disagree with Ayn Rand's philosophy and values, they fail to realize that her characters - this movie's characters - are unsympathetic and almost across the board unlikable. The Screenplay and its character development, with the necessary creation of drama on which the story hinges, is the foundation of any film. This production failed from the start. I won't even go into the extreme mess they made of the politics behind the corporate machinations depicted here, except to say that this story was like Wall Street's answer to its fraudulent actions that caused the long-term collapse of our country's economy and the immediate collapse of the whole world's. Who can sympathize with those whose only goal is undying greed? In the end, who can or will identify or empathize with the characters here who show active disregard and even distaste for other human beings, like the ones buying the movie ticket? One positive is the two lead actors, with huge props to Taylor Schilling; however, both characters are still too chilly and distant to warrant carrying about them. They are characters from the mind of Ayn Rand, and she was well-known for being fairly strange and certainly not warm. So, it is what it is.
patpit-78056 Normally, when books are being filmed, it's normal to assume that the book should be good in the first place, but what do you know. Atlas Shrugged(don't even ask me why I read it cause I don't remember who recommanded it to me and if I did remember I'd probably end our friendship immediately) is probably one of the worst books I've ever read in my life. From the first few pages you could see where this was going and it's characters were so one-dimensional that a freaking dinosaur fossil's got more personality and the same goes for the book. No wonder they are giving away 400.000 copies for free every year, cause who in their right mind would spend their money on this crap. Well, I hear Alan Greenspan is a big fan, but judging by his reputation it doesn't really surprise me. And, hey! I even heard Sean Hannity is playing himself in one of the sequels! They both fit like a fly on a turd! You might wonder when am I going to review the Movie, but I don't really have to. It's just as bad as the book and to tell you the truth, that should really tell you anything you need to know if you thought that maybe watching part II & III would change your mind. It won't. It only gets worse. If you have some spare time in your life, better thing to do would be loading your gun and blowing your brains out, but before you pull the trigger, you should either put the book in front of you or play a movie on your telly, just so the police know the reason for it and hopefully ban this book or at least your family can sue whoever is sitting on the rights of it for everything they are worth. Stay away from this movie and it's sequels. You're welcome!
carinareg341 This may be the first movie I have ever seen that is better than the novel upon which it is based. The movie is dry, but not bland. It actually succeeds somewhat in causing the viewer to sympathize with its main characters, until the viewer wakes up and realizes what these characters are and what they do.Quite a good adaptation of a shockingly bad book; although, the movie did accept Rand's erroneous portrayal of Atlas holding up the "world" (earth), and he actually held the sky; "FACTS" clearly do not matter to Rand, just the statue of Atlas in New York she passed every day in her limo....
