Andy Black Forest For a modern b-movie, Bait is amazing!....Although shark films have been tarred with the Sharknado series of films which are not all that fun and just made for the sake of it( that seemingly being that particular franchise's main joke), most probably due to this Bait has been overlooked. The underwater shots and camera-work are amazing andatmospheric and need more praise lavished on it. Some of the CGI is obvmade for 3D, and alas I have not seen the 3D version! But despite a few things looking slightly cartoonish it works fine and I had no problemswith it whatsoever...There's some great imaginative scenes in the film that utilise its unique setting to it's full extent and the couple in the underwater car's conversations are hilarious! Bait is not to be taken seriously and is obviously made for pure entertainment - and it delivers to the max on that level.....
Phoenixphire81 I just had to give this film a go after reading the ridiculous synopsis. However, it was not as bad as I expected. It is full of character clichés and obvious plot developments but it's still actually quite watchable. The acting is OK, no mind blowing performances here. A couple of known faces turn up in form of Julian McMahon (Fantastic 4) and Alex Russel (Chronicle) but the rest of the cast are relatively unknown other than the fact that everyone seems to have been in Home and Away at some point. The film moves at a steady pace and does have some tense scenes and some wonderfully gruesome deaths...but mostly this is just B movie tat without the sense of humour that usually comes with that genre. The films also loses points for some truly shocking CGI when it comes to the tsunami and indeed the sharks. Still...I watched till the end.
nmfsd While I love movies about sharks and creatures, this one is super unrealistic. No shark behaves the way it is depicted in this. Sharks are scary, because they have the ability to kill a person, but they aren't bloodthirsty man killers. Anthropomorphism is a common thing for Hollywood to do to increase suspense for less informed viewers. This movie is entertaining, but every scene where the shark is involved is downright idiotic. It only reinforces that sharks are out to kill anything that moves, especially humans. This notion is completely false. Sharks do not actively seek out human beings. If anything, sharks try to avoid people, because they know that people 1) aren't in their regular diet, and 2) humans are extremely dangerous to sharks. Between long line fishing, nets, chum fishing and large fishing vessels, sharks are intelligent enough to to stay away from us. Sharks leaping out of the water to grab a person crawling above, makes no sense... especially after it has already fed a few times. The people who wrote this movie are dumber than real sharks, yet still obtain the motivation to make BS propaganda. They only perpetuate the unreal notions of the fear of sharks.
begob Mixed bag, but better than expected.Almost switched off at first sight of the daft CGI shark, but we stuck with it.So a group of conflicted characters is trapped in a shop with a couple of man-eating sharks driven in by a tsunami. As the characters try to figure out an escape their conflicts are resolved, and they co-operate to save the day.The characters are so-so, and too many of them survive. The idea of the lower level car park not filling up with water is wrong. And I think they should have had one shark down below, with the water upstairs filled with loads of nasty little creatures that Australia is notorious for. Or just lots of small sharks, like in Open Water. The references to Jaws were enjoyable, and the time passed OK.
