japearson-55450 What do I need to say? I absolutely adore this movie. I remember seeing it on TV as a little girl and forgetting what it was called, not finding it again until a few years later. One day I saw it on a discount rack at the store and begged my nan to buy it for me.It's actually been a few years since I'd seen it, but I found the DVD in my bookshelf and popped it in for another watch. The story is very sweet and the dog is beautiful. The overall message of the story is wonderful. They really don't sugarcoat Opal's (the protagonist) situation and instead explain how life has both happy and sad moments, and that everyone should be given a chance. It's certainly worth a watch with the family! It does have some sad moments, but it gives the story depth and really makes you understand more about the characters. It will always have a special place in my heart as the dog resembles our old family dog from when I was young.
freakfire-1 This film was utterly painful to watch. The dog, despite causing early problems for people, somehow brings everybody together. Yes that is the backbone of lots of animal-themed movies, but usually those have good and funny moments. However this one failed to bring any real conflict. Nothing funny or stupid happened like in Beethoven or Ace Ventura. It didn't even have a cuteness that the "Frazier" dog, Eddie, brought with him.And what the heck has happened to Jeff Daniels? First he is driving a van with dog ears, now he is beaten by an actual dog, despite his attempts to rid himself of the pest. Jeff Daniels sure has slid into obscurity.Overall, not worth watching. Not even for the blind woman and the Rev. Jeff Daniels. And to be named for a failing food franchise? Wow, not good."F"
jpaquet-1 As far as family values go...this movie missed the boat. Since when do family values include a kid whining and throwing a temper tantrum to get her way, repeatedly? Where do the family values come into play when a kid yells at her father telling him that he is to blame for the mother becoming an alcoholic and leaving...and the father saying 'yes it was all my fault'. And the most shocking detail...why was the only black character in the film the one labeled as 'the crazy witch' - that's FAMILY VALUES for you!!!! The only thing that could have made it worse, was if the girl had her own cell phone. On another note...I'm not nor have I ever been a Dave Matthews fan but his character was the only one I liked in this movie and I thought he did a pretty decent job portraying him.
cameronroberts100 a very charming movie. set in a little town as if the world is not connected at all to America. the acting is excellent especially from the likes of annasophia robb , cecily tyson and jeff daniels.i thought it would be a really upsetting ending in which the dog runs off and doesn't come back but the sort of film like this that doesn't happen. i know this film is all about the dog but really he's not the character who you focus on its much more on the preacher and insisa opal.the girl seems to keep the world around her going without her life seems to be just sad and quiet.7/10
