jenrave Celeste & Jesse begins in a heartwarming montage of a sweet loving couple, and though small details betray the true state of the situation between them, the moment when their status as separated is revealed is still shocking enough to throw you into a spiral of anger. It is so rare to find a true friend, someone who completely on board with your crazy little jokes and thoughts, someone who is fun to goof around with and also has a big warm heart full of love for you, it is a golden ticket, nothing in the world should be able to take it away from you, unless of course, you can't see it while you have it.It is not even clear from the beginning who is to blame for the obvious crime against true love, both Celeste and Jesse seem genuinely in love with each other and yet absolutely comfortable with their new relationship status, but soon it becomes clear that Jesse is the one being dragged behind with Celeste keeping herself cozy with him by her side, while being sure that she needs someone better. And then, of course, Jesse finds a way to move on. But it is neither a happy nor a successful separation, Jesse is thrown into the extreme commitment of parenthood, with a woman who though interesting to him, by his own words "is not Celeste". Throughout the film, Jesse is torn between his wish to move on with his life, and the obvious fact that Celeste is his lifelong love and friend. Celeste, on her end, realizes the depth of her mistake, and how far beyond repair the situation went. The film ends with a sort of reconciliation, Jesse and Celeste cannot be away from each other and try to make the friendship thing work, and Celeste feels ready to move on herself. But the truth is, even at the very end of the film, this couple shows such a strong longing for each other that it is absolutely heartbreaking. Both will move on with their lives, and perhaps their friendship will cool down as they learn to love and cherish the quirks and charms of another person, but something truly unique and incredible was lost, something that can never be mended. For some, the film's ending can seem bitter-sweet, to me it was very heavy on the bitter. It is a cautionary tale. At a time when new models of new things pop left and right and everything moves forward in excruciating pace, patience runs thin and it is easy to forget that relationship is about hard work and constant care, and that love is nothing to be taken for granted.
Irishchatter It was a really sad movie involving what its like going through a divorce. It's a very difficult process like both of you could've probably spent months or even good long years together. I mean it is the right thing to do if you aren't both happy with how things go with the relationship, it is the best way to go. This film really makes you think a lot of what divorce is about.Andy Samburg was great playing as a very serious and humble guy. It's funny how Saturday Night Live stars just suddenly get serious film roles then act really funny. This reminds me of Bill Hader and Kirsten Wigg acting long lost twins, they were definitely chosen serious roles as well! Seriously I think Rashida Jones was definitely acting as the clown on this one. Her jokes were so dry and hilarious. Well done to whoever choose her to do this film!
Python Hyena Celeste and Jesse Forever (2012): Dir: Lee Toland Krieger / Cast: Rashida Jones, Andy Samberg, Ari Graynor, Eric Christian Olsen, Emma Roberts: Depressing romance with a theme that many folks may relate too. It regards those couples who cannot function in marriage yet able to function in friendship after divorce. The important scene regards our star couple, played by Andy Samberg and Rashida Jones out to dinner with a couple who are engaged and the conversation expands to this divorced couple still being close friends. Jones works to promote music talent and her latest client is a real hell cat demanding diva brat. Samberg is an artist who struggles with employment. This was part of what led to their split. He could not accept responsibility. Now he has gotten someone pregnant and his priorities are altered. She is at a loss realizing that she still loves him. She struggles with dating but the issue with the screenplay is its predictable presentation as well as an ending that some may view as realistic but at the same time hopelessly depressing. The film's title actually only partially works when one factors the conclusion. Jones and Samberg pull through with credible performances but supporting characters draw attention to themselves by merely being corny. Ari Graynor and Eric Christian Olsen play their engaged friends but they are props for convenience. Emma Roberts steals moments as a bratty pop singer whom Jones initially bashes. The theme of marriage and friendship is strong with good location work to match but it also leaves a forever harden sense of regret. Score: 5 ½ / 10
westfield-john Still impressed by Pretty Woman? If yes, its time to wake up and join Celeste & Jesse. A young couple, too close to be just befriended, but friendship is what makes them stick together. What happens when love is gone, when your partner is going astray, when you notice to be all by yourself in times you think about the future? Celeste is neither the Supergirl to handle everything, nor the Hollywood puppet who stumbles her way. The director tried not to overdraw this character, and he did well. Yes, you could say, this movie is out of Celeste's perspective, feminine, not childish or dumb, and sometimes harsh. Don't expect any turbulences in this movie, all characters seem to talk their way through relationship and crisis, all characters tend to express their emotions by words. yes, it is a conversational journey, not a sensational.
