Reviews

Nick Dees I will try to keep this short since many of the other reviews pretty much cover everything in this movie. Obviously it is not exactly the same as the original. This one has a bigger budget, and same interesting cameos in it. Including a big role for Rosario Dawson. All of these things were great. But the best part is that the script stays true to form. So many years later and the guys are basically in the same situation, going through the same things. Which in a funny way is what life is like for a lot of people. The comedy is similar to the original. A few new characters spice things up a bit, and perhaps pushing the limits a little more than the original.Overall I really enjoyed this movie. If you liked the first one then you need to see this. On the other hand if you didn't like the first one, perhaps you should take a pass since this is a lot of the same feel and maybe even a little more hmmmmm how do you say it. Raunchy lol Enjoy and don't say I didn't warn you lol
George Roots (GeorgeRoots) "Clerks 2", is pretty bland should you compare it to the first movie. What was a brilliant look at the lives of two store clerks from "Generation Y", ultimately tries to update that image to the present day with a few brilliant jokes but too many stale ones. After Randal accidentally burns down the convenient store, both he & Dante take up positions at the fictional "Mooby's" fast food joint. There we are introduced to the bubbly manager Becky (Rosario Dawson), and way too innocent Elias (Trevor Fehrman). As a usual day in their life, it revolves serving multiple customers and dissecting pop culture. Successfully managing to do both at the same time, either succeeding or offending others with their arguments.Like the first movie it grows on you. The friendship between Dante & Randal (Brian O'Hallaran & Jeff Anderson) has evolved over the past 11 years (Both real life and story), and it is only getting better for us yet worse for them. Ultimately towards the ending you see the movie digs into much deeper themes than what appears to be just your average comedy, all which Kevin Smith is more than capable of pulling off well.Saying all that, "Clerks 2" isn't a bad film. It just could've been better giving the talent provided, and not focusing all it's intentions on mocking current pop culture. What I loved about the original was the situations being somewhat more adult, and such a stellar soundtrack. Still "Clerks 2" is far from a failure, and does make a strong enough impact to hope "Clerks 3" will be made.Final Verdict: You get what you're given, you just end up hoping you'd get as much as you did from the first "Clerks" (1994). Sadly that may or may not be the case. 6.5/10.
Chris L Clerks II doesn't have that carefreeness and that scathing, sarcastic humor that made Clerks special. This one is in fact quite far behind qualitatively speaking, not having the soul of the first opus which was rather good actually. Here we face bland and uninspired dialogues, not as funny and incisive as in the original. The plot is anecdotal, and the story lines are too cliché to be really interesting and captivating. The addition of color and the "modern" cinematography didn't serve the movie well: it loses the character, authenticity and intimacy that made Clerks an almost cult movie.
kdnor2011 While I think I still like the first Clerks a little bit more, this is defiantly an excellent sequel. It does do a few things better than the first film, and a few things not as good. Now like the first film this movie might not be for everyone, some people may find it to just be vulgar and stupid, but of all of Kevin Smith's movie's that I've seen, I think this is the one that most people will like. There are a few problems, my favorite aspect of the first film is that Dante was exactly like me. In this film, he is like me, but he does do stuff that I would never do. I didn't relate to him as much as I did in the first movie, but only a little bit. Also the teenage kids voice got annoying, he just kept stuttering. And I saw that Kinky Kelly twist coming a mile away. But this film is actually more funny than the first film. There are so many LOL moments that it's hard not to like. But the film actually has heart to it, it isn't just dirty jokes. The characters are all likable and relatable in some way. And at points it's very heartwarming and even sad. The ending just left me with a big smile on my face. While I may like the first film just a little bit more because of Dante, I actually think that this is the better film. It's funnier, and has more heart in it than the first film. Like I said, it may not be for everyone, but I loved it.
