This is a really interesting and well-made film. Despite the disclaimer at the beginning I was still slightly skeptical of just how true to life the events depicted were but after looking it up I'm really shocked that everything in the movie actually happened. I won't spoil any of the plot, I think it's best to go in not knowing anything other than it's a bizarre and uncomfortable true story that involves elements of crime and psychological drama in a very mundane setting. I didn't find it quite as uncomfortable as some people, there was enough dark humour peppered throughout to make you laugh at just how insane the actions of some of the characters are but it was certainly also terrifying to see how easily manipulated some people can be. You will probably wonder to yourself how some of these people could be so stupid and gullible but the fact that it happened for real makes you realise the true horror at the centre of the film; the brainwashed masses who comply with any authority figure out of blind faith. The director really nailed the drama with restraint, rather than ratcheting up the weirdness with gimmicks or a heavy hand, and I thought the ending was very well done. Definitely recommended!

This is great. It sucks you in, will make you mad, and might stick with you for a while.The main thing, worth mentioning about this movie is that you get really annoyed and mad at a lot of the cast. It being based in true events, also kind of makes you mad a people. In general. A lot of people are really stupid, and will blindly follow authority. The atmosphere in this is really great, it takes hold after a while, and doesn't let go until it is finished.This is the kind of movie you can recommend to snobbish movie-seeing folk, and probably get cred. (some people like cred!)It is unpleasant, so very unpleasant. I loved it.

If it weren't for the compulsory 1 star rating then I would happily be giving this film 0 stars. Firstly the plot is an absolute disgrace with absolutely no plausibility, especially the scene where the protagonist is required to be spanked as part of a police investigation. Frustration would be an understatement to describe how I felt whilst watching this 'film', a film certainly shouldn't evoke emotions that want the individual to smash the TV whilst watching it. Other than this and the sub standard acting that accompanied it the film seems determined to portray American's as mindless idiots, unable to use their rational facilities. In fact I think this film resemble more of a mockumentary than a film that merits a average 6.4 rating. Quite frankly Craig Zobel should be ashamed of himself as a director and this monstrosity he has created. Ps I am aware of the appalling use of grammar in this review but I feel my frustration at the movie has driven to sacrifice a proper use of the English language. Your disgustedly Dr Emmanuel rent
