swilliky The fifth installment of the prolific and grotesque horror series picks up where the previous film left off but this time whoever is carrying out the terrible Jigsaw murders is not giving any mercy to the victims even after they comply with the sick rules. Agent Strahm (Scott Patterson) stumbled onto the scene of the third film and was set to die but made a last minute decision to puncture his throat so he can breathe while his head is trapped in a box full of water. Mark Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) is surprised to see that someone has survived the horrors of Jigsaw. Jill (Betsy Russell), the wife of John Kramer (Tobin Bell), is given a box of John's belongings after his death. Hoffman must cover up his role in Jigsaw latest puzzle even as he receives a note that someone knows his identity. With a hole in his throat healing, Strahm suspects Hoffman of some wrongdoing. The main trap of this film starts with five people tied together. They each have on a collar that will pull their head back into a sharp blade. There are boxes with keys on them that they can only reach if they hurt someone else. Charles (Carlo Rota) seems to know something about the other victims. Mallick (Greg Bryk) goes for the key first but Charles pulls him back and gets his own key first. Four of them make it out while one woman has her head cut off. Dan Erikson (Mark Rolston) tells Strahm to take time off but the FBI agent pursues his investigation of Hoffman learning that the detective's sister was murdered by a man who was sliced in half in the first scene by a scythe. The four survivors learn more about each other. Luba (Meagan Good) is the daughter of a wealthy sports team owner, Charles is a reporter, Mallick a trust fund kid, and Brit (Julie Benz) just has a boring job in real estate.Check out more of this review and others at swilliky.com
destinylives52 For those who are Roman numeral challenged, "Saw V" is the fifth movie of the "Saw" series. Mostly this movie is about one of Jigsaw's proteges and how this person came to be just that. It's a somewhat interesting origin story; and of course, "Saw V" has the traps (half of which are a bit boring compared to the previous "Saw" movies), the cruel and bloody choices the victims have to make to "redeem" themselves, the frenetic editing, the fast pacing, and the lean sets. What we no longer get are the clever, non-linear story-telling that gives us several twists and surprises in the end.The shenanigans are also amped up in "Saw V." Many traps are huge, set pieces that would take an army of MIT grads with lots of disposable cash to set up. But we are to believe two or three people (including a near-death cancer patient) did all this. There is a limit to suspension of disbelief. Also, there's a difference between suspension of disbelief, and suspension of b.s. The former is fairly easy for moviegoers to do; the latter…not so much.My most memorable, movie moment of "Saw V" is the scene when two victims put their arms in traps that have buzzsaws so that enough blood can be drawn to release the locks and set them free. Gruesome, cringeworthy, and a bit funny because both victims were making faces that looked like they were having orgasms. This fifth installment of the "Saw" series continues the downward slide — regarding the quality of the script — that was started in "Saw IV," a strong sign that maybe it's time to put this baby to bed.Mannysmemorablemoviemoments
GL84 After escaping from his lair, a detective begins an investigation into the connection behind the traps which leads to the true identity of Jigsaw's disciple who is out conducting another game and must race to save them before the game is finished. This one was better than the others, and right now is the one that can be tolerated more than the others. What really helps here is that there's plenty of fun and exciting traps here delivering solid and brutal gore scenes here that are certainly up among the series' best. The opening pendulum set-up is quite brutal and somewhat chilling here with the slowly-lowering blade drawing some nice tension in here, while the main game that plays out here is filled with several awesome traps and set-ups here. The opening in the room where they have the collars attached to the blades to decapitate them when the timer runs out is a fun game, the search for the keys in the jars before the bomb goes off is a nice, frantic race which is quite suspenseful, while the final two set at the end in the electrical wiring room and the razor contraption are some really impressive ones that are more important here in detailing how the game plays out which is the most impressive parts here. How they get to the gradual realization of their connection to each other makes for a really enjoyable time here which is not only given a nice reasoning but unfurls at a rather nice time here with the resolutions coming off rather well. The last plus here is the final twist which is a bit of a shock that is about as good as the first one was that manages to get several plot points tied together from the past into a fantastic effort overall. These points here hold this one up, while it's still pretty terrible. The biggest issue here with this one is a problem that's plagued the rest of the series as it's still utterly irritating and annoying as the flashbacks are just not so interesting throughout here with the continued clarifications and spelling out what happened in previous installments here being just not in the slightest bit interesting. As well, the detective investigating what we already know and taking up a ton of time on that issue alone simply combing through police files and reports is just absolutely dull as there's simply a ton of rifling around here where nothing much becomes of these scenes beyond merely confirming what's already known the whole time here by finally unveiling the true disciple here that becomes the whole point of the investigation. That's wholly boring here simply using all this time here on this one issue. The only other small flaw here is the fact that the rather lame ending to the game's set-up, which gets pushed aside to the back as the main focus shifts to the other plot-lines and feels quite a bit of a cheat considering how good the game here actually was. While this wasn't as flat-out terrible as the others, it's definitely up to a somewhat respectable status.Rated R: Extreme Graphic Violence, Graphic Language and Brief Nudity.
LeonLouisRicci Is that Really the Director's Name (David Hackl), or is it some kind of Forewarning or In-Joke?The Summary Line above Quote is from the Sex Pistol's Final American Concert in San Francisco. After only a 30 Minute Gig Johnny Rotten looks at the Audience and says..."Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?" This because the Band, Out of Sync most of the Time, Sid Vicious barely able to Stand Up, Cutting Himself with Razors instead of "Playing" the Bass, and overall just a Disastrous Display of Depravity, the Crowd Booing constantly, the Seminal Punk Band just left the Stage and that was the End, Literally. This Entry in the Never Ending Series isn't much more than a Boring Rehash and seems Out of Sync and Not Knowing when to Leave the Stage, is Repetitive with some of the Lamest Lead Acting ever Committed to Film. Of Interest, at this Point, only to Fanboys and Sadists it is Disappointing and Bad Film-Making to Boot. it is Flat and UN-Inventive, Ends Abruptly, and is the Worst in the Series so far.Yes, so far. It Made Five Times its Budget so Look for Saw VI. Or Don't.
