Rebecca East Although I believe this film gave an insight on Nazi Germany and the different possible viewpoints that contributors may have had, it is hard to separate the facts from the fiction. Therefore, I do not believe it should be used on an educational and informative basis. However I do believe that the actors within the film successfully described the typical personalities of the different characters and therefore this gave a more surprising insight into how the opinions towards the final solution varied. For example Colin firth played an opposing character which was surprising to see in a typical Nazi meeting, as it shows that even members of such a highly authorised group can be outspoken. This came as a surprise to me, and therefore changed the way that I viewed Nazi Germany. However, this does not change my overall negative opinion towards the party, yet the film was interesting enough to challenge my current viewpoints towards specific members of the group. The fact that Hitler isn't physically portrayed in the movie also suggests a viewpoint that he was not as highly dominant as many people encourage. Overall I think that the characters were also quite clear and their views for what the Germans decided to do with the Germans.
louisdemetriou The film conspiracy written and directed by Loring Mandel, in my opinion is a very interesting and a creative interpretation of an event where nobody but the 15 leading Nazis know what fully happened or what was exactly said around the conference table. The Wannsee Conference which was held on 20th January 1942 it was headed by Reinhard Heydrich; Himmler's second in command of the SS. The way the actor Kenneth Branagh played Heydrich was brilliant, you almost think he is Heydrich and the way he adopted the role to inform the viewer helps to show off Kenneth's ability to act. The film shows the confusing nature of the Nazi state and the competition within it. The members around the table are all competing with each other in a way that means they seem to be fighting with each other rather than actually achieving what they set out to do; which was deciding what should happen to the Jewish population. The main disagreements are over how the Jewish population should be treated; should they be deported, sterilised or exterminated. Those that failed to fully agree, like the character Colin Firth players are persuaded and almost threatened by Heydrich. The minutes of the meeting are known to have been kept a secret and eventually destroyed but the Final Solution is a topic that is known to be discussed at the conference. The stark reality that 15 leading Nazis made the decision of how the coordination and implementation of the final solution should take place and how the Wannsee Conference resulted in the majority of the Jewish population being systematically killed is shocking and very thought provoking.
shaund-14888 Great film, very informative although I didn't fully trust it due to the lack of evidence from the Wannsee Conference. However, I did not believe that the film was long enough to give the subject justice. The conversations, although fictionalised, gave a good idea of what the sort of topics that would be discussed at the conference. This for me was a great historical source and I may even use it in my studies. I was able to get a grasp of what was likely to have occurred and I now think my studies will benefit because of this. Colin Firth, what an actor. His performance as Dr. Wilhelm Stuckart was key to the story line. As one of the only opposing characters of the final solution it was important that he provided a balance between Jewish hatred and a certain level of pride towards his Nuremburg Laws, or even an unspoken sympathy towards the Jews. Kenneth Branagh, who played Reinhard Heydrich, was arguably the most important actor in the film, displaying the underlying inevitability that sooner or later the wholesale extermination of the Jewish race would occur. Branagh, through Heydrich's eagerness to get the meeting over and done with and his reluctance to listen to the interpretations of the fellow bureaucrats and S.A officers until he had made his point. He fantastically portrayed that the meeting was more of a formality than a real discussion on what should happen to address the problem of the Jewish race. Overall, I believe that the film was a brilliant historical source in my opinion and an enjoyable film to watch.
ryanochiltree Although this film was very boring as it was based mainly around a conference table I still feel that it was very informative and showed what happened when they was deciding whether or not to kill the Jews. I think that there was a great cast in the film and they all played a very good part in their given roles. when deciding whether or not to kill the Jews, there was many debates about why they were doing it. when they eventually decided that they were going ahead with it, they then had a debate on how they was going to do this and come to a conclusion that they would use gas chambers to do this. this film was very interesting because it was clear on its intentions to show people what happened around that table in Wannssee, Germany in 1942, it also showed us who attended the conference, some of these people were Reinhard Heydrich, Heinrich Müller, Adolf Eichmann and Friedrich Wilhelm Kritzinger. the actor Kenneth Branagh played the role of Reinhard Heydrich who was the organiser and main speaker in the conference, he was the one who made the final decision and had the final say. I thought this was good because it showed the level of authority each member of that conference had and clearly showed who was more powerful than others. from this film i found that the Wannsee conference didn't last as long as i thought and the decision was made fairly easily.
