kmkraft I loaned this from the library because it was referred to a few years ago in a tv news magazine as one of several faith-based films to anticipate. I hadn't heard about its release, so when I saw it at the library, I got it. I turned it on that weekend. I made it through five minutes before I had to turn it off. Had to. I told my kids about that and they decided to watch it themselves just to see how bad it could be. The night they did, I heard these uproarious blasts of laughter, and they finally came upstairs to tell me I had to watch "this one part." Reluctantly, I did. And I ended up watching a bit more, joining them in their laughter--it was so awfully made. My son asked my recently what the worst movie I ever saw was and I couldn't think of any one film.Until now. This film could have been salvaged, perhaps, if they had added a cooky musical score and remarketed it as a comedy in the tradition of Monty Python.
statmanjeff Never knew the story of David and Goliath was a comedy classic till I came across this film. From the muffled microphones when guys embrace, to fast-motion death stabs accompanied by chopsocky sound swipes, to skies rumbling almost every time David speaks (not quite as timed out as saying "Frau Blücher" around horses in Young Frankenstein, but close enough), to shameless soldiers correcting their leaders' perceptual errors, to Baldrick from Blackadder as a Greek poet, to inexpert CGI work that creates several unintentional giants among the Philistines besides Goliath, I don't think I ever laughed and smiled as much through a biblical story as I did here. I will not be surprised -- and kind of look forward -- to someday seeing a musical or dark comedy version of this story. 4 out of 10 if a serious effort; 8 out of 10 for the unintentional comedy. Made me a fan of the entire, mixed ethnicity cast, too (including the one or two wooden actors among them).
Jay McElroy Acting was so so... Costume dept was a joke! Red sweat pants, a tablecloth, and a salad bowl spray painted gold for a helmet. Story... well it isn't like we haven't seen it before. Casting... no one I've ever seen before... Setting... possibly Todd Hoffman's old land after the Gold Rush crew left. Dialogue... to say it was amateurish script writing would be a compliment to this movie, and an insult for amateur script writers,This is a movie that causes the eyes to glaze over and stop focusing as the eyelids close. I liked the story much better before the movie and the lame attempt that was made to put it on a screen....and I started out giving it a 5 out of ten for telling a bible story, so before those points were tallied I would have given it a -3 out of 10. It was painful to watch, but I dropped the remote control while slipping in and out of consciousness, and left it on because the dog was enjoying the light from the TV.
Fernando de la Cruz I don't know what was worse: the script, the acting, or the editing. The producers' intention was probably good, though. I'm glad many folks enjoyed this film but, with a better education in film appreciation, one can praise the Lord better.Omg, I wanted to be brief but my review has to be at least 5 lines long or it won't be posted, so I'll add that I don't mean to antagonize anyone but no keep silent would be a sin of omission.
